Is Normal difficulty as bland as it was in CoD 2 and 4? I was actually considering this as a purchase, and $40 is not something I can just throw around willy-nilly.

Then don't?

The story's definitely better (or at least better told), difficulty aside. Also, Normal isn't as easy as it was on 4, but its not hard. Kind of in the middle, like Normal should be.

Grenades have always been a problem in Call of Duty games. In singleplayer on higher difficulties enemies throw them with perfect accuracy more often than they aim their weapons, and in multiplayer players toss grenades sporadically into the air hoping for easy kills. I doubt they'll change either of these things, though.
I only played a bit of five but from what I saw it's pretty much Call of Duty 4 down to the graphics, feel, and speed with the exception of worse level design. And I'm going to compare it to 4 because it feels MUCH closer to 4 than to 3, regardless of who made it.
Zombie survival seemed like a fun diversion and coop is something this franchise has needed for a while, though.
