So I called EA about "disk checks". - by lost_soul

After re-discovering how much fun NFS High Stakes is, I called EA and spoke to someone about how I could get my fully licensed/purchased copy to run on my netbook. The guy actually told me that they have been considering patching this stuff out of the old games officially...
I wasn't sure how to respond at this point; I expected either to hear "we don't support that game anymore" or "your netbook doesn't meet the requirements haha".
It would seem I'm not the only person who has complained about not being able to run genuine software on new hardware purely due to artificial limitations... but I can't really believe that they would actually patch such an old product. I asked him if they had a GOG release planned or something and he said he wasn't sure. He seemed to know what GOG is.
He told me he will e-mail me a form to put a request in with the developers.

Well as you probably know they've recently released their version of Steam, called Origin. So far the shelves are fairly bare so my guess is that's why they're thinking of patching all their old games. If you don't have a usb dvd drive just crack the thing for the sake of being able to play it. I mean you're not breaking any real laws if you're cracking something you legally own, fuck the EULA.

Sorry Spectre but you're talking to an idiot who won't use cracks "made in joe's basement" (his words, more or less) because he's convinced they're all viruses or something.

I also don't want a visit from the imaginary property task force. (IPTF) I just want to pay a reasonable price for a game and enjoy it on my terms... but cancerous software has ruined this aspect of PC gaming.

I'm pretty sure last time you talked about netbook compatibility someone mentioned iso mounting programs like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%. I'm failing to search for it, though, and I don't know what your opinion was. But it's still good advice.

I was speaking to Dethy over Steam IM the other week and he put forth the theory that Lost_soul might have genuine Assburger's Syndrome. After L_S' recent "I find socialising to be a waste of time" post in the (
