What? Rip an image of my own CD? PUH-LEEEZ! Why would I do that, when I could just call tech support and demand the company go through their archives and email me an unmolested .exe file! I MEAN IT'S SO EASY! WHY DO THEY NOT CARE? I PAID THEM LIKE 50 BUCKS 8 YEARS AGO! THEY AT LEAST OWE ME THIS MUCH!
I'M NOT GONNA LIFT FINGER ONE, BECAUSE IT'S SOMETHING THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE! I MEAN OH SURE, I COULD JUST GET A CRACK, BUT THAT'S LIKE ADMITTING DEFEAT. INSTEAD, I'LL ENGAGE IN A CIRCULAR ARGUMENT THAT GOES ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON INSTEAD OF ACCEPTING IT'S KINDA SHITTY SOMETIMES, BUT THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO ME! THAT'S ADMITTING DEFEAT!
I NEED TO BITCH ABOUT IT ON A FORUM FOR THE THOUSANDTH TIME! THIS PLACE LOOKS PRETTY GOOD! HEY! DID I EVER TELL YOU ALL HOW MUCH I HATE DRM?

This is an example of the industry's hatred toward its honest customers and I would jump with joy to see another game industry crash like the one that occurred in the 80s.
So you'd rather see that no one gets to enjoy new games instead of people being able to enjoy new games with some restrictions (which you're free to pass on if you find a particular game's DRM too restrictive)? You really are a piece of work...
I don't like installing cracks either, but seriously, just install Daemon Tools, make a CD image, transfer image to netbook, mount image, play. Nothing illegal about it, you won't get in trouble for it, don't worry.
Koki: shut the fuck up.

Jeez guys, point made I think. No need to dogpile the poor bugger.

So as I've only started at TTLG school I have to wonder, is lost_soul really just an old school, dedicated troll?
As this is relevant to this thread I was wondering something. If you own a game like in lost_soul's situation then can't any modification of the files for personal use, particularly to make it run/optimize it, be seen as a mod?

The publishers didn't start indicating these requirements on games up until about 2003 or so... on tiny print on the box which you don't see if you shop online.
oh what the fuck every single game that comes on a cd-rom LISTS A CD-ROM IN THEIR MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BOX. Also online shopping pretty much didnt exist in 2003 in the form it does today, and today they always list minimum requirements. And if a website does not list minimum requirements then

"It's hilarious to see people die in car accidents, because it is them who support cars in the first place "
If we had cars that miraculously never got in accidents and people were still stupid enough to buy the ones that randomly accelerate and vier in one direction then yes, it is their fault... just like
we have games that don't require the user to contact a third-party to function. we have websites that list minimum requirements properly.

Well, according to most EULA (which is of questionable legal status in and of itself), ANY modification of the game files is illegal. Yes, even your pretty GTA4 graphic enhancements or Morrowind armors are, strictly speaking, breach of the agreement. However, laws are only as meaningful as they are enforced, and no company in their right mind would go after people who actually, in their own free time and at no cost to the company,
enhance the value of their product, and thus increase their sales.
Unless, of course, they plan to release a competing DLC in the future. Then they might care.

I choose not to use those methods because I could get in trouble ... The game producers shouldn't be able to sue me if I "crack" something to use it on a modern system, but they very well can.
You know, if I were you I'd take my chances; you'd probably win by default since the company lawyer would be laughing too hard to actually state his case.

Hey, cool, 3D acceleration. Did you use a glide wrapper? That is what I ended up doing on my desktop machine.

Not quite. He'll still be saying and doing the exact same things tomorrow. Though I do agree we all got carried away for a bit there.
Also, have you all noticed how TTLG has been kinda extra aggressive these last couple of days? Maybe it's just the threads I'm reading. I dunno.
