I'll probably get Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed (both), having played them on the PC. I think they should play nicely on the PS3. What else?
RE5MGS4
Siren
I plan to buy PS3 once God of War 3 comes out.

I can't imagine playing FPS games with the controller though.
It's not THAT bad.

poroshin, you can download both old games and demos for new games from PSN. The catch is that the demos are free, but the old games aren't.
MGS1 costs $10 on PSN to download for instance, which is a reasonably small sum of money for it -- but if you have the original PS1 disc, you can simply play it on your PS3 directly instead.
Also, coming to MGS - "Play or watch???": Koki has some semblance of a point there. A bit, but not much.
It comes down to this: either you watch MGS1/MGS3 and miss two of the most polished and brilliant games you might have ever played, or you do things the right way and play them through*.
I'd vote for play.
MGS2 is more hit or miss in terms of its existentialist plotline and trappings, but as a game it's still aces. It's your call, either way.
*With the requisite amount of cut-scene watching and codec listening, of course.

I'm a big fan of the Resistance series. Fall of Man has great storytelling thanks to its cutscenes, and R2 had some gorgeous level design and epic battles. Controls on both are really good and make the games quite immersive (I'm a big kb+mouse player so that usually is an issue). And Multi on R2 is also really well done.
If you like flight sims, Blazing Angels is pretty cool. Haven't played the second one.

Heavenly Sword. Slash-em-up in a God of War stylee but with much aplomb, the best use of the Six Axis ever! and excellent cut-scenes with good acting and characters that you learn to love and hate for the right reasons.

If you can't get hold of Snake Eater Subsistence- the actual game, complete with 2nd disc- it might be worth reading the recaps of Metal Gear 1 and 2 that came with Metal Gear Solid. The events of those two games have a lot of influence over MGS, and to a great extent MGS2 as well. The former is obvious- MGS is pretty much a remake of MG2 (though it's set 6 years later, it shares a lot of gameplay parallels and a few plot elements), but unless you're paying closer attention in MGS2 the parallels to the MSX games (particularly the original) may go over your head. I think I may be the only person who notices the parallels with MG1. Sons of Liberty's parallels with MGS are obvious- the game practically points them out- but Raiden's experience mirrors that of Snake's first mission in MG1.
Oh, and to get roughly back on track, while I don't have a PS3 yet, and I've been eyeing it for MGS4 mainly, I'm also interested in Uncharted, Resistance and Killzone 2.

LittleBigPlanet Is a great buy. Thanks to the online features, its one that you can always hop back into and have a fun adventure in whenever the urge scratches you. Speaking of which, getting online and playing somebody's LBP level later this evening sounds like a great way to cool off.
For MGS, great game, but I recommend buying the collection first. Infamous is a great game, and worth it now that the price is going down. Valkyrie Chonicles is, unless you are jap-o-phobic, a must buy.

What the hell,
so that's why Ocelot says "Solidus, you and the boy were selected because your relationship resembles the one between Snake and Big Boss.". I didn't realize what that meant because the whole thing is supposedly a receation of the Shadow Moses incident and there was no father/son thing there. But there was one in Outer Heaven. Even though I read the recaps in MGS1, this just didn't click. Now I understand that part, thanks. :)

metal gear solid is my favourite movie :sly:

Uncharted was a very surprising. I didn't expect much from it because it came bundled with the system. But it is a very good game. I've been a long time tomb raider fan and I have to say they're doing it better than the tr guys are.
I've only played the resistance demo, but Killzone is as good as fps exclusives go ( haze was pretty cool so long as you dont' pay full price for it )
MGS4 is basically the reason i wanted a ps3.
Also RE5, I kind of feel like a traitor since I didn't hold out and buy it for PC. but I think the experience is best played on a huge screen in my living room with a wireless controller, rather than on my pc with a keyboard. Heck the only RE games I've not played on a playstation are REmake and RE4. so i guess it kind of belongs on the PS

I heartily second SubJeff's Heavenly Sword recommendation. It's an awesome game that I don't think gets the props it deserves.
As no-one else is going crazy recommending PSN titles, let me suggest a few:
Burn, Zombie, Burn! is an ace twin-stick shooter with a very cool risk/reward mechanic and absolutely fantastic music.
Shatter is a mind-bendingly good Breakout/Arkanoid clone that puts an incredibly unique spin on the genre.
Flower is utterly spectacular, completely original and thoroughly relaxing. You really will have never played a game like it, and while yes, Heavenly Sword's use of sixaxis
is very accomplished, I have to say that this is the best use of it.
Noby Noby Boy may not have any immediate goals, but excels as a virtual toy. It's another game from the guy who made Katamari Damacy, so has a lot of the same charm, all mixed up in a really weird package. Slightly disturbing too. If Boy breaks in half, he has to eat his own ass to reform.
Trine is on PSN now too, and if you haven't played it on PC, it's well worth picking up on the PS3. I waited for the PS3 version so I could play it on the big telly. That and I love my trophies :o
Oh, and another game that's well worth picking up if you haven't played it on another platform yet is Bionic Commando Rearmed. Utterly brilliant stuff, successfully fusing the retro and the modern. Plus it plays nicely into the new 3D Bionic Commando, which even though everyone else seems to hate it, is one of my games of this year.
Finally, get yerself one of these for internet willy-waving:

Edit: Oh, and I played and enjoyed MGS4 without having much knowledge of what had gone before, so don't discount it completely if you've not had much prior exposure.
Could do with bloody trophies though.
