Movie freak as well, US/Asia widest range? Kidding me? Most euro stuff will never breleased. A movie like Intimate Enemies should rock Hollywood, but isn't even for sale

Hello, region locked Criterion Collection releases and Japanese imports. Eg only the Lucas-fied butchery that Ghost in the Shell 2.0 has been released on BD outside of Japan. Also most anime BDs released in the States are region-locked due to licensing agreements, i.e. FUNimation releases.

For me it was pretty much Criterion that made me go for a US PS3 - for a film geek with wannabe-academic leanings (which pretty much fits me to a T) they're simply too good to refuse. I'm thinking, though, that at some point in the future when prices come down (i.e. in a year or two) I might replace my DVD player with a Bluray player that does Region B. Until then I am okay with Region A disks.

missed the bluray part my bad. The library of growing but yeah way behind

Question on that: is the Bluray region block on PS3s hardware- or software-based? I.e. is it possible that there'll ever be a workaround that will allow disks from all regions to be played on a PS3 (and that won't be invalidated by OS updates), or is that highly unlikely or even impossible?

Eva have tried Vuze? AFAIK it concerts video to PS3 viewable formats.
And as to projectors- meh. 1080p 40" Sony Bravia TV is all you need for console games.

It's deeply rooted into the complex firmware, hence why there's zero piracy on PS3.

*googles* No actually, I didn't even know it was available on PS3. I've avoided it since I had written it off as a massive bloatware torrent client. I might give it a 2nd look now, thanks.

Just checking, but is this last bit factual or is it heavy sarcasm? Is the PS3 really piracy-proof? :weird:

AFAIK, the hackers have yet to crack it.

That is what I hear too.
I have decided that I am getting a PS3 before year's end. I wanted a 360, but meh. I think the future of the PS3 is bright, and finally the price is right. PS2 backward playability is worthless to me, I am FAR more interested in the PS1 playback. I can borrow a PS2 anytime, and my original PS1 is on its last legs. As much as I hate Sony, the make some fine systems, and I have been a huge fan of their systems from the beginning, I was only a recent Xbox fan, getting my Xbox in 2003.
