When there's nothing to talk about, people revert to being assholes. It's some sort of
internet TTLG law.
I considered posting, but... it's Uru. And I haven't played it. It was an ambitious community experiment that failed. Andrew Plotkin / Zarf wrote about it in his inimitable, insightful ramble, and that's piqued my interest about it more than anything else: (
http://www.eblong.com/zarf/uru/rj/) here, for the curious.
Still, it's an MMO of some description and I can't seem to get into those. Maybe if there were more people I knew to trawl around with.

thank you
Aerothorn and sulfur
but so you all know uru will be coming out with more stuff in future ,possible complete great shaft and possible real myst and myst 5
but a lot is rumor and the game is lacking a ton of people but since i got there ,there seems to be a resurgence of people ,so all multi player puzzles are possible to do now

its not that im being deliberately cruel but its just that its really hard to read stuff with no caps and terrible punctuation like commas used entirely incorrectly if at all and sentences that just trail off ,and the fact that the initial post has exactly the same
i have bought this thing and it is really great you should all to be try it
structure of any number of generic spambot posts ,including bold ,repeating the title and making dubious grammatical sense
is quite annoying and also i genuinely didnt no it wasnt spam until you posted again because it really was that horrible
so it would be nice to see better posts what are your thoughts

god damn it DDL stop being 100% on point, it's unbecoming of you

Thirding DDL.
I think the difference between here and other forums is we call people out on silliness like this. On other forums, as far as I've seen, you either get ignored or only replied to by similarly formant deficient individuals whilst the rest of the discussion goes on around you.
And it's no coincidence that posters with similar style have loathsome advice to give. Yeah, I'm looking at you Garrett.

I think what Aerothorn might have been hinting at is that it might have been better to re-read, realise it wasn't a spam bot and thus be a little less Desert-Eagle-jammed-in-the-mouth about the typing suggestions. Lest we end up like a small, poorly lit bar populated only by staunch regulars who barely keep the place running.
I agree totally with what DDL says mind.

Just once I'd love to see dethy or Eva or Koki greet a newcomer to GenGaming with "Thanks for posting, welcome to the forums!" :ebil:

I'm actually curious about this. I've been playing Myst since '95 and since most of the games have been re-released on GoG i've gone back to play them. I'm not very good at it, honestly. And I get annoyed when I look up a solution after spending so much time being stuck and realize how simple it was. I really like the exploration and especially the music in the series.
Having said that I hate the 7th Guest style puzzles that are thrown in there. "Get all the cans from this shelf to this shelf in 3 moves".
After what Warren Spector was saying in the Deus Ex playthrough interview about not calling them puzzles, but calling them problems to solve, I wonder how the Myst games could have been done with that mentality in mind.
I wonder how Multiplayer puzzle solving changes the dynamic. I might try it out.

I was a bit like that in Legend of Grimrock: I just don't seem to have the patience anymore (or..well, the time). I find I will look at a puzzle, establish exactly what kind of puzzle it is, make an estimate on how long it will take me to solve it, and if it's something straightforward that involves logic, I'll do it, but if it's something bullshit that involves trial and error, or will take longer than 10 minutes (possibly involving taking detailed notes) or involves figuring out exactly what the designers apparently meant by their cryptic 'clues' or whatever..then gamebanshee.
Which is a little sad, but at the end of the day I just don't have the time for this shit anymore.
An online experience sounds interesting, but I imagine it would depend HUGELY on the group. Trying to do a trial and error puzzle with a coordinated team would be great, trying to do one with the usual calibre of internaut dwellers would be a clusterfuck of awful. Like..the crystal maze if they just let everyone barrel into every room.

No, no, no it's not sad. I hear you on the timewasting puzzles DDL. Back in the day I'd spend ages working out the route through one of those portal rooms but I don't have the time nor inclination to memorise a set of back forward left left rights and whatnot that I'm only going to use once in the whole game. It's not like learning a special move in Mortal Kombat.
Maybe we just got old.
