My dad wanted to play Thief while being invincible (My dad hasn't played Thief since the 90s) so I installed DarkLoader to help set things up.
Problem:

I must have loaded Dromed about 20-30 times in one sitting.
I ended up breaking the game trying to download everything I could think of to fix this one issue of DromEd automatically reverting to software mode which makes the game run twice as fast.
I feel bad now because my dad was looking forward to playing Thief (he still can, it's just he can't run it with DromEd). :grr:

so, what exactly are you trying to do again? do you want to play the game, play FMs, or use Dromed to edit levels?

He wants to play in God mode, which is only possible with Dromed. It completely destroys the gameplay in my opinion (the pleasure is in the risk factor), but to each his own

install Dromed basic toolkit and enable editor hw rendering (see the docs).

I don't know what your install method is\was but I still have all my original disc's and I install my Thief games off backup disc's I made of my Thief directories after a clean install. Then all I do is add things in from there. In the case of TG I start by adding original DromEd version 1.37 then I add all the cmd's included in the dromed toolkit as well as the user.cfg file included in the toolkit. Then I install newdark including the editor package. Then I open the doc folder and unzip T1.7z and put the INTRFACE.CRF file from the newdark package in it's own folder separate from the original intrface.crf file.
Then I move all the original .crf files to a folder called RES. After that I do all my file editing starting with cam_mod.ini. Be sure to set your mod path to whatever folder you placed your INTRFACE.CRF file in. Then make sure you add +.\RES+.\MOVIES to your mod path.
Now for cam_ext.cfg which you can open with notepad just scroll all the way down and on a new line type "dark1" without the quotes. What that does is signify that your running T1\G.
Now for dark.cfg scroll all the way down and add "ObjTextures16" and "MeshTextures16" both on they're own separate lines without quotes.
Now for DromEd.cfg Scroll all the way down where it says "D3D9 render options" and comment out "editor_disable_gdi" and "edit_screen_depth 32" to uncomment just remove the ; in front of the option. If you have problems you can always put it back. If you want you can add a screen resolution for dromed on a new line under "edit_screen_depth 32" to do that just type "edit_screen_size 800,600".
Now finally for user.cfg if you want you can clean that up a bit by deleting the top 2 paragraphs of text above the ";For starting loot" option. Now scroll down and delete everything below where it says "edit_screen_depth 16". If you want you can add these lines at the top of the file. "mission_map 1,2,3,4,5,15,6,7,16,9,17,10,11,12,13,14,18" ";Set starting mission" ";starting_mission 1" everything gos on it's own line without quotes.
Everything listed above should get your game running smoothly and should allow you to add things such as ep2 without issue. Just make sure whatever you decide to add you open your cam_mod.ini file and add it to the mod path in front of RES+.\MOVIES.
It's hard for me to give people advice on how to do things because I'm so used to doing everything manually and creating custom versions of things. For example I don't use tfix but yet I use some tfix files which I'm extremely thankful to voodoo47 for ever having made in the first place.
I hope some of this information will help you or perhaps someone else looking to do things manually. I know it maybe a lot of work but if done right doing things manually is always the best way to go in my opinion. When you do your file edits always try and leave an empty line at the end of the file.

Thank you from me. I've had a go before but give up when I get to the bit where I have to set the mod path. Trying to work out what to do makes my head explode.
