The pick that worked was a round tooth rake. I think I did actually unlock it firstly with a curved pick, but the lock was a bit stiff and made me question myself.
Raking's significantly easier and a lot less satisfying than picking to be honest. You apply pressure with your torque tool and then simply "saw" the rake back & forth in the lock.

This is cool. I've thought for a long time that being a locksmith would probably be an interesting job. I've also had the desire to learn how to pick locks because of Thief, but unfortunately I've never actually had the pleasure to in real life.
Also, that's a really cool story Malf! How exciting and gratifying that must have been being able to use your skills in a real scenario and helping someone in need.

I think if this came up in ThiefGen, we'd be taking some serious shit right about now.
Eh?

I've got to the stage now where a I can pick the standard, non-tamper proof, practice Yale lock in less time than it would take me to pick a lock in the average game.
Once it clicks (pun intended), the technique is ridiculously simple. It's a delightfully rewarding combination of touch and hearing, and I must admit, quite addictive! I can quite happily sit and noodle it open multiple times while not really thinking about it.
