Actually, Thief is for people with all the diseases and disabilities ;) You can play it however you like, that's its strength. Similar principles made Dishonored popular with the modern audience, despite being stealth-oriented.
On the other hand, you state that you don't like the modern audience, don't like the industry, and don't know modern games with good stories - and you want to work as a game programmer or level designer. Well, good luck with that.
