I'd say No, and for good reason. Aside from the malware many game publishers incorporate these days, there are many other reasons gamers are hostile. The author goes on about people slamming and insulting games that took so much effort to create. The reason we are hostile is because the developers often do not listen to us. Look at Thief:DS, DX:IW or Unreal 2. We have games that don't even stand up to the originals, let alone surpass them. Smaller maps, less mod-friendly, limited (or in the case of IW) no multiplayer, and overall shorter length has been the trend for a decade now.
We, the purchasers of the original games, made these people a success. They should consider this the next time they plan to dumb down a hit PC game, or deliver something lackluster. In a sequel, I expect larger levels, more things to do in the game world, better graphics, and more choices as to how I accomplish goals in the game.
I've also heard stories of GTA4 for the PC actually requiring an XBOX controller, and not letting you use a generic USB gamepad. Things like this are absolutely inexcusable.

I like how you completely ignore the problems that developers and gaming journalists also have- and thus completely miss the point of the article. Let's face it, the industry sucks for everyone right now. Unless you're Blizzard, Jim Sterling, or Fragony.

And by "us" you mean a whopping 1000 people who bitch on a random internet forum, which are but a tiny speck compared to the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) who enjoy the triple-A bestsellers (such as Bioshock)?

Game journalists would get more sympathy from me if there weren't so many bribe taking hacks; or spineless doormats with the no sense of integrity, nor the guts to stand by their opinion.

Support for DirectInput controllers was added in an early patch. Way to fail at basic research.
