I've always wondered something about Mynell's Steaks: what did he use the spiders for?
Did he put them in a blender and use the liquid as a marinade?
Did he let them bite the steaks to pre-digest them?
Were they freeze-dried & sprinkled on top as a seasoning?
Any ideas? Anyone?

Yep! As Garrett says:
"Mynell makes the best steaks in the entire city. His recipes may catch me a pretty penny."
And upon discovery?
"Ewww... So that’s Mynell’s secret ingredient."

as long as the meat is tasty, who cares from what kind of animal it comes from. a crab is actually not that far from a spider, and most people have no issues with crab meat.

I doubt the insides are similar just because they both have finger-like legs and an exoskeleton--six-legged spiders aren't even arachnids. Anyway, we know the Thief Universe's spider meat is excellent tasting, 'cause Mynell makes the best steaks in The City. If people can't discern one steak from another, and presumably we are talking venison, veal/beef, or lamb/sheep, here, not seafood, to compare to what the citizens think they are enjoying.

some big spiders have a bit of meat inside their legs and bodies, tarantulas for example. it looks quite ok when cooked, and I would have little to no problem trying it out. as long as its dead and cooked, any creature('s meat) is good with me.

Uh … Did you read that last part of that wiki?
QUOTE:
"There are certainly those who might not enjoy the abdomen, however, as it contains a brown paste consisting of organs, possibly eggs, and excrement."… Double *ew*

that's why I said, meat. gut paste is not my game, and while I really like crabs, I was quite disgusted when I observed some people eating even those uhh, less meaty parts (apparently, it's considered ok by quite a few as well, even though the contents are practically the same as with the spider).

not really - the crab has been living in an environment that has made him taste bad, plus he did not cook it. no big deal. he has eaten worse things, like that (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuB3kr3ckYE) giant rhino beetle larvae (warning - this is really nasty, do not open if you have a weak stomach). although I think he is adding more drama than necessary on purpose (by consuming it alive) - that french survivorman guy has eaten a similar monster without issues after removing the bad parts and roasting it slightly.
