242: "Piece o'cake"! I don't know not right nor any other person at Eidos, except René. Do you? Seems that nobody from Eidos love their foster child, Thief, because they simply ignore Thief community :(.
I meant thousands of posts on these forums were petition enough. If they don't care anyway, no petition will change that.

bukary: What a stupid I am! Of course, I should care about this. Just a minute :).
jtr7: Nice idea :thumb:!
242: Maybe. Maybe not. In any case we should end that we have start.

242, you're a pessimist.

Now 122 signatures, plus the original petitions count (some duplicates there, I'm afraid). It took around 1000 for DromEd 1, 2000 for DromEd 2, and 3000 for T3Ed (I may be confusing something else with that), but hopefully it won't take 4000 or more for the source code.
We don't know if they care or not, have real time to look into it or not, and they may be aware of other factors we are not.

What can we loss? Just sign!

There's a lot of speculation going on about Eidos currently unnamed project being Thief 4, yes? Publicity wise if they did announce that, releasing the source code at the same time would seem like a good idea, since making Thief 1 compatible with modern systems would give them a chance to sell people the whole series (and probably make a decent amount of money from copies of some very old games).
I realise they probably won't see it like that though. I've a suspicion that if Thief 4 is ever made it'll be a standalone game with little reference to past games so more people buy it :(

It's a good idea saleswise...
Not all people that bought Half-Life 2 played Half-Life 1. So having a HL1 source (not open source, but adapted for modern machines) was a nice surprise for them, they could understand the origin of Freeman's story.
Also ID making original Doom Open Source. Do they gain anything with that? Yes, a lot. A lot of good publicity when people play it like crazy, including all the mods.
Now i they release the source code for Thief, that would also be good publicity. People that will play Thief 4 may want to play 1 and 2. And with the source code they can do it without all our FAQ's tweaks and even with better modifications. It will keep the game, and therefore the entire franchise, even more alive.

neon flame, Gambit: Exactly! There is a very "little" thing remains for us to do: to persuade Eidos-Square-Enix in this.

Maybe a separate thread in the FM forum - urging people to sign? (Apologies if there was one already, I did look...)
Also a little advertising elsewhere (eidos forums, TDM?) might help.
Maybe announcement
