So,... what's the situation on the Dark engine source code? - by Cliftor

Thanks for the link man, no I didn't see that. I was following this as it unfolded but then stopped after a while as it seemed to brickwall. So has anything come of it?

Yep! Here's the list of all the things that have come of it...:
We were just waiting for someone to ask. :p

There's no point in even joking about it anymore. Duke Nukem Forever came out before the Thief source code, and now the Doom 3 source code will too.
Prediction: TDM goes standalone before the Dark engine source code is released.

Joking is the only kindness left. If there's something for sharing from it, it will be shared; that's the whole point of wanting it and doing stuff with it. If the copyright owners grant permission, it will change everything. Until then, asking about it won't change the reality that there's no such thing as status updates and sharing going on here. It's not forgotten, it's in legal limbo. If there were news, it would be posted.

Dark Orange.

But a version of the source code has already been released. Albeit, an illegal, possibly outdated version, but it's source code nonetheless.

Illegal, yes, no permission to do anything with it. We await official word on the matter from the Legal Department, as it's been in their hands since February 2010.

They clearly care a great deal about this loyal community. . .
At this point I don't understand how anyone could still care about whether or not they sanction the community to make the game playable on modern hardware and therefore secure their profits for the foreseeable future. Fuck 'em.

Fuck 'em.
I know it certainly feels as though that's the attitude they've taken toward the community.
