So,... what's the situation on the Dark engine source code? - by Cliftor

:D
That's about as ambiguous as asking just "why?" We have no clue "why not", but we have things that look like clues to indicate ill-feelings for "why". We'll have to see if the new bosses will let the French-Canadian studio build on an American-realized pseudo-quasi-British game, let alone bother to dig through the vault for our holy grail.

Shit, they could just open the vaults to us and let us dig through it if they're going to be that goddamned lazy.

I know, right?:D

jtr7: I can see no reason to wait for the Thief 4 release. You see, Russians speak: "Hammer an iron while it's hot". I mean that it's time for all the taffers (well, most active of them) should attack Square-Enix with an e-mail and a petitions. I know that this method did not work on Eidos, but who knows, maybe this would work on Square-Enix. That's why I'm talking about Japanese language.
I believe that if we would try to write an open petition not only in English, but in Japanese too, the result should be (slightly?) better.
All: Please, could anybody point me to the petition for opening of the Dark Engine source :)?

The old one has been closed for some time, and there is no new one...yet.
I see no reason to wait, either. My point was, Eidos may not have autonomy anymore to do anything without getting permission. It wouldn't surprise me if all the old stuff is archived in a warehouse somewhere, and it all may have been shipped to other locations as companies shifted around--to what extent, I have not researched.

I've found (
http://www.petitiononline.com/TDPT2/) still live petition, but I do believe that this one should be more...expressive, IMHO.
About whereabouts of the Dark Engine source: Even Eidos have burried it and forgot the place, I do agree with somebody who have said that at least several ex-LGs still keep it due to the "just for archive" purpose for the last decade. If it's true (maybe it's not), then all we need is a legal permission from the copyright holder to publish that source even if the copyright holder already have destroyed it.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that one. How long has it been? Over five years. There I am at number 7.

I believe it would raise the chances if this was coordinated and combined with some internet news media massage (To be public and visible).
jtr7 on 14/4/2009 at 07:52
Yeah, and we could also put the link in our signatures, and try to post with it at least once in every thread we participate in, including posts at the Eidos forums, and where René can see it, too.

jtr7: Well, I'm last one :).
Volca: Nice idea! But how such an action could be coordinated?
