PC gaming have dumbed down long before the more serious games started being a market for the consoles. Still have mods and that's where it is, buying a pc game that is actually good will last you for years. No games like Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis on the consoles either. And then you have gems like Penumbra. PC gaming isn't dead it has just become more of a niche audience because there is a bigger pool to fish from. I remember being so excited with Heretic, YAY finally a new DOOM, it was a rarity.

Boss fight is a console tradition. I don't think it's progressed at all, anywhere. Nobody's tried to take it to the next level.
