I've just finished the Museum level, watched the cutscene, and ready to see the statues and Gamall to clear a path for me. But near the Audale Plaza, there was no Gamall nor statues, just a stupid guard patrolling there, I just walked upstairs and placed the heart.
What's more, there's no one in the Pagan camp in Audale, only to Pagans standing out side, no statues neither...
In addition, when I'm trying to sell the goods in Audale's fence, I found a black backgroud behind the door, I tried the all the buttons on the screen but they just refuse to work, then I tried "Alt+Tab" and "Ctrl+Alt+Delete", it always jump back to that "black fence", at last I used a "Alt+F4" to end this, lucky I had saved the game.
I really wonder where Gamall had gone to... BTW, no Orland's blood was found on the ground.
Have anyone experienced this before?
Sounds like an easter egg(just my naive thinking), or(which sounds more realistic) a super bug...

Well apparently what can happen is the game thinks that it is a different day and sets the NPCs appropriately... So it sounds like the game thinks you're quite early on indeed. If you reinstall the game I think it should heal itself. Alternately you could just not look a gift horse in the mouth and enjoy an easy finish. The end of the game was actually quite dull anyways, apart from the screwing around, gang war bits

Well, I'm playing it the second time, and the first time Gamall and her statues was there, and I really enjoyed the gang-wars, especially the docks part, these statues had done a great favor to me.

Ah, interesting, things like this used to happen in thief 2 alot :D
If you've got the quicksave, or a regular save for it, I'd love to experience this messed up city for myself, that is, if you're iwilling to share it of course :)
I'm one of those people that love seeing abandoned areas in games, places you weren't meant to go to, things that weren't meant to happen.. stuff like that!
If I hear about some mysteriously cordoned off area in a game, and the game is a good one, I cannot rest until I've seen it :)

It seems that I have a save of Southquarter when you are about to put the Eye, no Gamall, no statues, I promise, (and even no guard:weird: )
Later I check the Objectives and on the top there was just a "Pause", without mentioning which day...
And after I checked my Garrett Loader, I found that I haven't change the current game to Original...Perhaps that's the reason of this strange emptiness.
BTW, check other parts of the town, and you'll find no one in Southquarter, Stone market(both Plaza and Proper), Dock, a few(two) guards in Audale, some hammer haunts in Fort Ironwood and two Zombies in Graveyard.

I had a bug where I could sometimes walk on the streets in the thief 2 mission "life of the party" and another bug where I after reloading once noticed all the npcs disappering, same mission aswell. Then I ran around the mechanist tower, looking for anybody or even *a* body, nothing to be found, I then saved and reloaded only to find that everything was back to normal :/
But, from what I've read on these boards, objectives sometimes doesn't get marked as "done" or even flat out ignored as failed. (like when you get the unlimited hp ability)
It seems that these kinds of glitches sometimes happen, for no apparent reason, but it's damned fun to be the person that experiences.. I mean, just think about it.. for one second, you're on the dark side of that game you're playing, no rules apply, complete mystery!
