Ok, so we are all discussing the possibility of Bethesda making a Thief 4.
But recently there was an interview about the Making of TDS where one of the developers told about the possibility of releasing episodic content for Thief fans (maybe through Steam ? Just like Half-Life episodes ?)
So who owns Thief ?
Bethesda or Eidos ?
And would you prefer Thief 4 or episodic content ?

EIDOS owns Thief.
That thread was 99% wishful thinking. Bethesda's not as involved as people think, unless they are the true Keepers of any future THief project and it's being kept a secret. I can't imagine a company investing as much as they would have to on a chance with the odds against them. The former LGS employees that work there are probably talking in meetings around the keg water-cooler. Bethesda will worry about MONEY, folks. Money issues will make or break a new Thief, as will the powerful conflicting personal visions of the individuals.
My preferences would be based on whether or not I could play it without buying a new system, and how Thiefy and well-made they seem to be to me. Episodic would be interesting to me only if it didn't feel like an FM that TTLG's best could make given more time. The advantage of FM's is that they are free and more are always in the works. The advantage of episodic Thief could be regular releases. I wouldn't want the games to be released incomplete, though.

Along with the above: I hate it when a game goes series and then leaves you hanging.
The best example I can come up with at the moment is
Aquanox. The first "game" was more or less complete. The second offering
Aquanox: The Revelation, ends in the middle of a "story".
Loosely, the plot is you are an orfink. You follow clues (and battle underwater bad guys) to find your "roots". The Revelation ends with you solving a puzzle that gets you closer, but leaves you without any closure. The game is great, but there is no complete story in the second offering.
No third is in the offing as far as I have yet to hear.

Yeah. The threat of a new and incomplete Thief story would be very real.
I'm not being too serious here, but... Maybe if each episode had a different main character. A short story. Popular charcters could be given new stories. If the money made it worth it to them, they could make double episodes with a double-sized story. Other main characters could cameo. If something happens and the games are no longer produced, a mini-comic could be released to conclude any running subplots.

Mini-Comic ?
If it isn´t profitable they would just write a short ending and release it on the internet...

i wonder...
once the dark mod really comes out ; if it gets extremely successful and famous
wouldn't some people at Eidos be kinda pissed ?

Blackman, the first game was Archimedean Dynasty.

Only if the Dark Mod was making money, which it won't, because it has to be free, not for sale.

They might even be grateful if it´s extremely successful to the point of gathering the attention of non-thief fans because that would mean a hope of revigorating this franchise into a good cash cow from their marketing point of view.

I think that the fans of the thiefs series of games and general fan work own thief, Eidos doesn't give a fuck!
I bet they didn't play either one of the thief games/mods/fm's in YEARS !!!! :eww:
