So You've Got Climbing Gloves. Now what? - by t93308

Thank you, Blackman and Sting. . .
Because this message is gradually becoming a "walk through" on its very own!

So, , , what general guidelines would you give to us, new T3 climbers?
Maybe something like?
"Look up, searching for climb-stoppers and then leap up and simply, go for it!"

Unfortunately the designers used some very arbitrary methods of setting up the glove use. Walls that have the same texture, and a texture that you have climbed elsewhere, are unclimbable in some areas.
But, if a wall looks climbable then give it a shot. Jump, and hit the W key and if you can stick you can climb. Try the A/D keys to move sideways around an obstacle and around some corners.
If you need to get to a pipe or similar object, when you jump to the wall to climb your tools and equipment disappear. When you back down to the pipe from above, as soon as you are on it your tools reappear.
If you back down to a pipe, then do a slow turn to face the direction you want to walk. If you don't your head will turn, but your body will still be pointing to the last direction you walked. This can make you walk off to your death.
Another thing: When you leave Ramis' place via the roof, if you look to your right you will see a parapet on another roof. Sadly the designers made it impossible to mantle to that low parapet. But if you grab a crate and use that for a stepping stone you can then work your way around to above the inn and find a small room.
If you do you will wonder what the hell it is for. There is only one way in or out, and no way to get there unless you use the crate cheat.
But as you play through the game (provided you haven't found this room early) you will discover that it is a portal from another mission-
In Ironwood, you can get to the rooftop over the cemetary where you meet the dissident Keepers. Nothing there but it is fun to ramble around there.
The gloves do give you a little explorative ability but are useful for too little, and restricted too much. The flexibility of the Ropearrows in the first three was more interesting. You might not find diddley in most areas, but if you could use two or three arrows spaced correctly you could wander rooftops and back ways in the majority of the missions.

1: Climb up through a trapdoor to get some loot and a firearrow.
Wow, I did that a super-hard way... I climbed one of the big stone pillars and stood on the top, than balanced on the narrow stone beam that crossed over to the balcony thing to get the loot/arrow. Must have used 2-3 potions healing myself after falling multiple times. Only then did I notice the trap door...

Also, you need to develop the skill of jumping sideways. In "Killing Time", you need this to get some loot.
Climb a wall as high as you can. Hit the jump key and the A/D key at the same time. Hit the Jump and W as you fall past the wall.
It takes practice, but is the only way to get around in some areas.
PS: make out your will before attempting this manuevar. :)

Has anyone mentioned the
Rooftop hideout in Old quarter? It has 2 flashbombs and can be accessed from 2 spots. One of them is just outside Garrett's apartment IIRC.
(Like hey, I'm kind of new at this entire game-series and easily confused.)
But doesn't Garrett live in South Quarter, at My Place and that special drainage "loot area" is in Black Alley, down and to the west aways?

i just found this, it is missing from the online tutorials i have seen...anybody else know about this?
if you are in auldale, hanging around the museum entrance, at the bottom of the museum stairs, there is an entrance to the pagan park. if you climb up & to the right of this entrance to the park, there is a gas arrow. you need to start climbing the wall halfway up the stairs to the museum to get at it. this makes 4 gas arrows in auldale that i know of.

the title of this thread really implies spoilerage, which is why i didn't spoiler-proof my previous post. if this is a prob, let me know or delete it or whatever:p
