I've been using the same FM loading program for a while, but lately I've had some problems. With all of the "old" FM Loaders, the "new" Loaders and the "New Old" ones popping up, I'm confused as to which one seems to be the all around best. I know there are different opinions and preferences, but I would appreciate a little insight on those willing to give it. I'm not super tech savvy, so I just want a loader that will read and load my fan missions, older and newer. I'd also rather keep my space to a minimum. Any suggestions are appreciated.

FMSel comes with New Dark, so it's the least hassle by default. It's also great.

I also use FMSel because it's simple, doesn't require any taffing around, and so far I've never had any problems with it.

In a nutshell, it's like this:
- Garrettloader's days are over. It hasn't been updated in many years, there is no continuing support or development for it, and it has some potentially fatal issues with newer FMs.
- Darkloader will still work with older FMs, and with some tweaking it will work with New Dark FMs. Many people still prefer it, but I think most others believe it to be becoming (if not already) obsolete.
- FM Sel comes with the New Dark patch and has several things that make it preferable to older FM loaders. The most important are that 1) it will work with all FMs, old and new, 2) it has continuous support and development, at least for now, and 3) it creates a separate folder for FMs which means that you don't have to uninstall whatever is currently loaded in order to play another FM. It's simple and streamlined. On the downside, it doesn't have some features that people seem to want, such as the ability to rate FMs that you've played, among other things.
- NewDarkloader is R Soul's latest effort and seeks to essentially take the functionality of FM Sel and bring to it the layout, interface and features of the old Darkloader. I haven't kept up with the latest news about NewDarkloader, so I'm not sure if all the bugs have been completely worked out, but I think it is fully functional and working as expected, mainly. You can read about it in the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146917) NewDarkloader thread. Personally, I think that NewDarkloader is the way to go, but it's up to you.

It's a shame about Garrettloader. It was my favorite back in the day. I liked the little image that you could include with the FM that would show up in the readme.

Can you describe what tweaks you mean? b/c I still use DarkLoader and don't see issues with new FM's other than the occasional TG/T1 FM being mistaken for a T2

That's what I was referring to. I should have made that clear, sorry.

I have heard of other issues when mods are installed and I made a sad attempt to explain but realise I don't actually understand because I don't use anything other than the EP sometimes. I shall have to look it up. I think it's something to do with the order in which mods are read/unpacked. Something like that.

I seem to recall issues with some mods as well, but I don't believe it had anything to do with the mission loaders. I could be wrong.
