and the best thing is that you can save your saves (and screenshots) when uninstalling ( so taking only very litlle space), so if you want to replay them, they will be available again.
That is a big plus because I save at particular points in a mission, like Secret Spots. It's nice to be able to recount those for future reference.

You mean before abandoning
Garrettloader Oops. I only used that once or twice so don't know what it does but still think you should make sure your Thief folder is clean before starting anew. And yes, for Thief Gold as well.

I have been playing Thief 2 via Steam for a few years now, so I shouldn't have to move things around. I should just have to make sure that I'm pointing to the same folders when NewDarkLoader is installed. Right?
Yes.

not going to poke into this too much as I have no time to mess around with all the different loaders, but when switching from one to another, starting off with a new, clean T2 install sounds like the smart thing to do.

Shouldn't an install via Steam mean that I don't have to do "clean" installs the way we had to in the olden days. I can't remember the last time I physically bought a game. And every game I have from Steam has never needed to be reinstalled.

The problem with old loaders is that they used the method of replacing by backing up old files and inserting new ones in their place which is how you originally had to do it before NewDark whereas now FMsel or any loader designer to take advantage of NewDark's ability to load mods or missions from separate directories makes sure there is no chance of messing up your install like was possible with old loaders. Old loaders also didn't allow loading of mission patch files (.dml) and other nice features related to file systems and loading of things that NewDark allows.
So there's really no reason to not use FMsel or NewDarkLoader if it's complete enough now.

it's perfectly possible to screw up a steam install. that's why the "verify file cache" button exists.
