Im somewhat addicted to Thief 2 atm and really enjoying it.:) I'm up to escaping from anglewatch which after taking the mechanist scroll and raising the alarm from the office finding it ammusing that there was no one really left in angel watch to come take me down as they were all dead or knocked out.:D Boy is this a chunky stage, possibly the longest and most in depth I have ever done, its up to 3 hours so far I think. I'm gunna expell a big sigh of air when I complete it and crack my neck and fingers.
Anyways I just wanted to report on some cool little unexpected things that have happened in the game that most of you probarly have experienced.
The "Blackmail" level in the Sherifs house. There I was hidding in the shadows waiting for a guard to come down the stairs when I hear a click and see some flikering and some lights turn on eluminating alot of the small hallway. Whoah!, I run behind a pillar until he passes. This was unexpected and pretty cool I thought, requiring a quick and precise reaction to avoid revealing myself. I can't recall if lights were turned on by guards in Theif Gold.
In "Ambush" I tried to knock a gaurd out with my black jack only for it to make a loud metalic snap on what looked like a helmet the guard was wearing. I thought cool, they got anti-knock out helmets but when i hit some more guards over the head who seemed to be wearing the same thing they were knocked out cold leaving me to think I either came across an isolated bug or hit his sword or something instead of his head. :p
In the same level I encountered an obviously crewl fact, all the heavy armour makes it hard to swim for gaurds, but is also probarly a bit of a bug as I don't think they were ever intended to swim. They were never taught to in both the real and game world I would say (it WAS some sort of medievil age afterall). In any event it was funny hearing a guard curse me as his lungs fillled with water and a free and easy kill for me to.
A few moments so far in "Party". Being a bit stuck figuring out how to open the painting in the office I was running around trying stuff. Anyways I came across one of those chunky Hammerites Sledge Hammers in a foot draw and threw it towards a mini yellow mech it made a deep metalic clank and it malfuncitoned and shut off!:D I thought wow these things have a use, so I weant throwing it at another little mech but it didn't seem to affect it, so again maybe was a conicidence or bug or it was just really low on hit points. Regardless was damn funny!
I also threw it at the strange short little golden person with the mechanical eye. I was hoping to crack him open like a pinyata and grab the goodies inside (jewels, keys, candie ect). I had previously tried a mine to no effect as well.:(
I also wanted to find any left over people who may have had a key I needed so purposefully attracted a mini mech and it led me to a bunch of people hiding out on the lower levels and while in the panic I knocked out whoever had a money bag on them. The mech basically led me to a gold mine heh heh.
The final moment I can recall which I wish to report on was also in this level. I approached a women facing a fire which I decided not to extinguish with my final water arrow (man these were tight in this mission). So I knocked her out and she falls forward (must have just had dinner in her stomach) into the fire and despite being assumably unconscious she lets off an understandably disturbed scream of pain and horror from falling in the fire.:D I thought that was clever and made me rethink not dousing the flames, although she didn't manage to alert anyone that I was aware of.
I repeated this process upon another house dweller but no screms came from the fire leaving me thinking it was just a sound glitch.:( Again still was a good moment.
Well I guess ill report back with some more which I'm sure ill experience. ;)
Thanks for reading!

All of these are reasons why I love Thief so much. Finding the cool little "tricks" and so on is half the fun.

I forgot to add my experience in Party whereupon I jumped into the Necromancer Spiral Tower and just had to read the dodgy spirit book, ok sure some interesting yet familiar looking pictures. Then Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zombies!!! Complete with traditional freaky deep zombie moan. Scared the crap outa me, so I high tailed and jumped out the window back on the ledge.:D Then took em out with some fire arrows so I could then explore downstairs the spiral.:)
Anyways I'm up to Kidnap now, what a huge level this seems to be and presents stealth challanges and thoughts reminiscent of Deus Ex I havn't really felt like this before in the Theif series. As did the sumbarine in the level before I guess.
Btw my original plan was to just gas caranov or whatever his name was but obviously that mask probarly protects against that so I'll have to rethink my strategy.;) Perhaps some flash bombs, and a black jacking are in order but his gaurds could present a challenge. Well not asking for tips, just wanted to report my thoughts.

I remember also being impressed that unconscious bodies were still considered 'alive' by the game. You could do anything to an unconscious Deus Ex NPC and they wouldn't die. But burning or drowning unconscious folk in Thief was a nice sadistic touch, non?

Yea except they scream, carry on and make a lot of unwanted noise even thought they are unconscious.:p If a guard or civilian has caused me particular trouble I sometimes consider throwing them into the river after black jacking them as a bit of payback.:ebil:

Not exactly. You can't drown them, but they'll gib when hit with weapon fire. Thirty whacks with a baton, and it's splatter time.
