I am playing though TG for the first time and have gotten to the Hammer "Undercover" mission. OK, I am nearly at the end, but I got stuck. After expending many arrows trying to get a switch to trip (a very wrong approach), I resorted to a walk through and found out I have to flip 5 switches within 5 minutes to be able to get the talisman. This is not at all obvious. I would not have figured that out without help. So for those that complain that some FMs have difficult objectives, even to the point of being a bit obtuse, I say that TG has similar features built in. FM makers are not being more difficult than the commercial product. I am finding TG to be much more difficult than T2 was. Very hard to be stealthy. Playing T2 on expert is relatively easy as compared to normal on TG (with the exception of no kills).
After playing TG, I am a bit more humble and will be less critical (even silently to myself) with some FMs that seem too hard or just insanely difficult. Too much marble? BAH! TG is LOADED with marble. Not enough shadows? TG sometimes has nowhere to hide at all! I am glad to have this lesson and feel a bit of a fool for comments made in the past as a sole T2 player. I now understand some FM makers and their T1/TG style. While I don't particularly care for that style, I appreciate and accept it more now.

I don't know about that. I don't think the original game having obtuse elements is a good reason for fan missions to as well.

I wish the original game and the FMs were much harder (expert should be expert). Some of us want to reload 30 times to get through a single room with just the right split-second timing. Unfortunately Thief isn't the game for that.

I, and absolutely nobody else of sound mind, want to reload 30 times to get through a single room with just the right split-second timing.
FTFY.

i believe that the
correct statement posted by Xorak was:-

Nobody has the right to change someone else's post and try to pass it off as a genuine quote
btw..... I agree entirely with Xorak, although frustrating there's
No better feeling than to get through a really really tough section of a mission, even if you have no hair left....the 'I've done it' feel good factor is just fantastic

It's all right man. It's just an internet meme. No harm done.

[Well no, you can't. You can 'attack' what someone says but you can't attack someone's character here.] This was in response to a now deleted post.
Also, I don't know what you're reading, fortuni, but it's different from what I'm reading. Quoting, and changing something in that quote with a 'fixed that for you' is normal internet practice. There's no fraud involved as there's no intention of passing the quote off as genuine.

There's a readable in the mission that explains this. IIRC it's a purchasable hint at the start of the mission. In short, it's easily accessible information that you managed to miss out on.

"Finals at the Academy", a T2 FM. Without consulting a walkthrough, complete the first objective that's asked of you, to read the scroll on the chair.
"King's Story", another T2 FM. Without consulting a walkthrough, open the back door of the castle. Better yet, open the
front door of the castle WITHOUT opening the back door.
Also, comparing OMs to FMs is kinda like comparing apples to oranges, especially when it comes to difficulty.

Perhaps you're looking at this the wrong way. What if it's Thief 2 that is just too easy? That Thief 2 was made to be too easy on purpose? Because people couldn't figure out aspects of the first game without help (even when that help is presented to them in-game)?

Also you need to remember that if you spend a lot of time playing a certain game, you start to get used to the patterns and strategies used in that game, and it can seem easy to you then. Thief 2 and Thief: Gold have a very different design focus, a different set of enemies, different level design, and as such, what works well in Thief 2 may not work well in Thief: Gold and vice versa.

What makes you say that?
