Some issues regarding TTLG as a whole. - by kamyk

I don't know if having a Thief Gen version of this topic is helping things. I hope some of you are at least finding this cathartic. Not closing, yet... though I'd suggest most of you say your final piece and then, if you want to continue this, scoot over to the main thread like the original post intended. I'm as uninterested in having a Thief Fan TTLG Issues forum as I am a Thief Fan Off-Topic forum.

Even though it would give each side their own place to speak their minds without having to clash with each other? I think that would be a major improvement and I would enjoy participating in a general discussion forum minus the commchat culture.

There shouldn't BE any 'sides', period. TTLG is one community with lots of different streets. This 'Us against Them' attitude is really counterproductive to the community as a whole, imho.

Dia, TTLG like most forums I've seen isn't 'one community'. It's composed of different groups with different ideas and trying to ignore those facts helps no one.

What are you going to do about it? Ban this group? Ban that group? That ain't gonna fly either, and you know it. People need to stop taking this crap so seriously, and post where they want to. If it doesn't suit you, stay out of it! Simple as that. Beating this over and over again is stupid as fucking hell, and is getting reeeeealy old. If you don't like Thief Gen, great, go post in Comm Chat, if you don't like Comm chat post in Thief Gen.

NightRanger, what you're advocating here will only persuade newcomers that there is a side to be chosen when discussing at TTLG - which is simply not true. The truth is that most normal people are able to fit nicely in all kinds of discussions found around here, commchat or not.
The fallacy of Kolya's argument in the other thread is to mix a pretended and actually nonexistent commchat/thiefgen rupture based only on a few vocal experiences from both sides, and a perfectly valid observation that the contents of TTLG have been left to rot by admins for the last years due to lack of time/motivation, and that motivated users were not given the means to reinstate a full dynamic for the forums.

The individual lurkers protest vehemently against being put into a group. We don't post wherever we want.
Seriously though, groups are not the problem, I think, it's more a question of limiting oneself without necessity. I understand that people here (or in the FanMissions forum, which I know a bit better even if I'm out of touch) have established a way of communicating with each other that doesn't seem to fit into ComChat and don't want to change that too much just to make themselves agreeable there. If you're used to wish your friend a Happy Birthday by bringing him a giant cake you probably don't see why you should invent a witty title to do so. But I think it would be possible to make ComChat a place where various cultures of communication could coexist if one could get over the initial irritation. Hopeful thinking maybe, but I'd love to have everything.

I didn't say anything about banning anyone (but if I was, I know who I would start with ) and other than agreeing with Kolya's arguement I haven't 'beaten' anything over and over in spite of some spam thrown my way.

All I'm saying is there should be a general chat forum where you can have a no nonsense discussion and leave community chat to itself where the old guys there can do whatever they want and a clear understanding that there are two cultures to choose from (we could rename commchat "The Zoo" lol), I think that would be a great idea. It's not nasty or unreasonable to suggest this-I've found the thief section (mainly the editing guild) here on TTLG to be quite useful after getting my start on a fellow fan site and would like it to continue and prosper. But there is no reason to invest any more time here if the forum health issues Koyla, Kamyk and others have brought up aren't going to be dealt with.

NightRanger, Have you ever posted in CommChat?
Why don't you try to get involved there and get a feel for it, before you start slating it out of hand?

Bravo on losing any hope of credibility. You've obviously been hurt by people from CommChat and can't get over it. Too bad for you, but stop presenting your opinion as consensual.
