Someone should get all the upgraded textures together in a single installer, and offer it to Eidos as something they could put in an expansion pack along with the editor and more missions.

Wow, keep up the good work. OH, and seriously keep up the Thief 1 and 2 style textures. Something I noticed greatly was the lack of the Thief 1 and 2 style feeling in these missions. You've given the textures that old warmth. :) Thank you, I'll be trying them out right away.

Really amazing effort.

That's because it's Thief 3!

Yes, of course it's Thief 3, just like Thief 2 was Thief 2. You're missing the point....it's lacking the overall Thiefy feeling in many ways. This is one of them. Thief 3 or not it could have easily retained more of the feeling and mood by taking careful note of the colors used in the previous games. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes.

I love the way it has evolved though. It is still Thief. If Thief 2 was made in a different engine, more things would have changed. Thief 2 felt more like a huge add-on than a sequel with a few new features. I think it was difficult to make the game in a new engine with new features as people were still crying out for the things that made the first two games so good. Personally I like the new direction and think they got the balance just right, adding new features to the old ones.

I do agree with you on pretty much all those points. I think we're just approaching it from a different view. I liked the new style, but they tend to lack the warmth and vibrance of the older games. Even though they were dirty, dark and grainy...I find Thief 3's textures all tend to run together...losing the balance of grit and becoming bland instead. The game is still very beautiful, but there is a certain blandness at times. Overall though, I do agree. :)

glad you like 'em :) yes, I'll keep up the Thief1/2 style textures - that's one of my aims.
@ToolFan I don't want to make Thief 3 look like Thief1 or 2 - I just want to change some textures, which I don't like - for example the hammerite wins - the Thief 3 windows just do neither look like church windows nor like hammerite windows !

I noticed that too. They are very undetailed, with very little indication as to what they represent. Lets see those big hammers everywhere! :) I personally think it helps to bring the game back in line and ads some continuity with the world that was setup in the previous games. It's the small details like this that are very much appreciated by those who loved the established reality.

Established reality?! More prefect phrase would be "indivisual perception". Changing the Hammer windows to old school, as shown in the currect version feels really inconsistent with other high details, IMO. I once curiously tried to use high-res T1 texture pack, in which some things were like T2, and it looked really odd even though the Engine was same. Same rule applicable here.
Hammerites splitted into Mechanists, now reuniting back, they must have decided to re-texture thier windows! (ofcourse this a wild guess) but my point is, Things evolve. Its not a Thumb rule something has to remain the same 10 yrs down the line, especilly the Art direction in games. Then again, not evrything has changed, so I guess its very much balanced in the current way. Making some textures high-res is very much appreciated, like the wall-paintings etc. But Black Thief is working on each mission one by one replacing everything possible, banner-lamps-windows-... to make it look and feel like T1/2...over-riding the T3's intended look & feel. I won't ever go for anything like this.
I agree to ToolFan2007's suggetion that one should release 2 texture packs, one mere a high-res one, enhancing the current beauty and other for nostaligics, replacing current one's. (the best fro them obviously would be the T3 mod in Dark engine, which seems a posibilty in the light that T3 SDK isnt going to happen)
