Some newbie questions. - by footsteps

Heya. This is my first thief game, and so far I'm loving it. I have a few questions/issues:
- how do I enable anisotropic filtering?
- how do I limit the framerate without the use of vsync?
- I've noticed that the mouse sensitivity changes, depending on whether garrett is moving or not (ie. it's higher when he's standing still). This is quite disconcerting. Can it be fixed?
Thanks :)
EDIT: thief: deadly shadows, in case anyone was wondering :).

In your Vcard control menu.

You don't.

Check the OPTIONS menu CONTROLS. If there is no option there, try the MOUSE menu for speed and sensitivity. If these don't work you are stuck with what you have.

Some Vcards have a "user" menu that allow you to use or not use anti-aliasing or other options to tweak your graphics for GL or Directplay.
Some games also offer you the option, but if you have neither of these then you are stuck with what you get.
I can tweak the settings for 3D up and down in Quality and Performance, I can adjust Anti-Aliasing, anisotropic filtering, Mipmap detail, Smart Shader (a card specific application), and API specific settings which include, geometry instancing, DXT texture formats, Alternate Pixel center, Triple buffering and Zbuffer depth. It also includes individual adjustment for R G B, color temperature and tint, and brightness and contrast. These last are in addition to those on your system or monitor controls.
If your card or game does not offer user controls, then what you see is what you get.
By the way ganac hit the EDIT button on your post and you can add to it without double or triple posting. :)
You can also remove a double post by editing both. Add your comments to the first, and then delete the second.;)

In your Vcard control menu.
I meant ingame :). Don't like forcing it at the driver level because I use different settings for various games and I'm too lazy to be constantly changing settings :P. Anyway, I found the answer. It's in default.ini: MaxAnisotropy BTW, I am absolutely floored at how good this game looks; not just the amazing lighting, but also the level design.

According to the FAQ, you can change sensitivity through the .inis, but I suspect that this sensitivity change thing is a bug.

Some Vcard have save options for setting to each game you need to tweak.
On mine, it automatically will "correct" when I start the game I choose to play.
Good luck with the "mouse" settings.
I agree the graphics do look good, but there are other aspects of the game that are a bit weak.
The most flagrant example is that every "secret" switch or button is the size of a pie plate. :)

Well as I said, this is my first thief game, and it just totally caught me by surprise how incredible the graphics and gameplay are. I mean, halflife2 won all these awards, but the gameplay is so shallow, and I must say that even the graphics didn't impress me half as much as this game. There are some annoyances (getting stuck on the architecture being number 1 thus far), but then, what game doesn't have those?
Example: I am now in the docks. In trying to enter the
ship
, I was having trouble getting past the guards, so I dropped an oil flask on the pier, and fired a noisemaker on the oil slick. Well, everyone, guards and civilians, went running to investigate. Both guards and two civvies slipped off the pier and drowned! I couldn't believe it actually worked! So then as I was laughing my ass off, a chick from the bar, who had also slipped but not fallen into the water, said: 'This isn't funny!'. I had tears in my eyes :).

If you find you enjoy THIEF, then try to find the DUAL pack with TDP and TMA.
The graphics, are of course, not nearly as detailed, but the Games are outstanding.
Sadly, TDS limits the player options, and has some design problems. In the first two, and the subsequent TGOLD, you are pretty much limited only by your inventiveness.
Check this out and you will see what I mean:
