Hi, I was just going through all the instructions in the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75031) thread and found the solution for the same problem this one thread was describing.
I have Thief Gold and Windows XP, and after getting it successfully installed I tried downloading the Thief Gold Direct3D Texture Error Fix listed there, but the same problem and that same error message that thread describes ("Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage") still happened.
So I thought I'd search around first before asking to see if anyone else had gotten a solution, and I saw this thread.
Up above, the advice was, "Try the thief 2 solution ("safe_texture_manager")... i remember that working for me in thief gold." The above user tried it and said it apparently worked great.
Now I did try that with Thief 2 (removing the semicolon from the user.cfg), and now it works great. The only thing is that when I tried the same trick with Thief Gold, its user.cfg doesn't appear to be written the same way. When I use notepad to pull it up, here's all it says:
mission_map 1,2,3,4,5,15,6,7,16,9,17,10,11,12,13,14,18
And that's all it says. There doesn't appear to be a semicolon to remove the way I could in Thief 2. :wot:
Has anyone else encountered this when trying it? I had wanted to give it a try before trying anything else and was really surprised at the file's content in comparison with the one in Thief 2.

If I launch Thief DP through GarrettLoader, appear this message:
"Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage"
I tried the v1.14 patch for this problem, but it asks for the cd, even though its in there.

Are you using version 1.41 of GL? there was an issue in the way GL was launching Thief 1 and Gold in previous versions. It worked on most but some installs caused the CD request, version 1.41 resolves this by adjusting the shell call slightly.

I was using Thief: Gold Direct3D Texture Error Fix after successfully installing Thief Gold.

Ok, this solution works with original Gold, :thumb:
but not with her FMs, and not with TDP and her FMs. :(
In conclusion my problem is that I don't succeed in letting work the FMs for TDP anymore from when I have passed at SP2 and/or from when I have changed the card video passing to a Nvidia FX7800 (or after having installed one of the last versions of the drivers NVidia). Before this, they worked me. I can now play only the FMs for Gold, but they are little. And I believe that if I succeeded in letting work TDP, her FMs would also start over working me.
The problem is serious for me because they are co-translator of the FMs in Italian, and because of this problem I cannot try her after the translation.

Ok, after having made a number N of attempts installing and re-installing Gold (and the GarrettLoader) and applying and disapplying the various patches and systems in various orders, I don't know how but finally work me the FMs of Gold and those of TDP.
Thanks to all for the helps. :thumb:

I just read about this idea and thought I'd give it a try, but it isn't working for me either. :( The game will still play in "hardware off" mode of course, but switching it to "hardware on" after starting a mission still causes me the same error/blackout problem. :tsktsk:
I'm pretty stuck and am open to suggestions. By this point I've tried reinstalling Thief Gold at least twice and applied the fix each time, but both before and after I'm still having the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try also to modify the resolution to a more low value respect that normally default in your PC.
