I ran the avi files through the DviX converter, but it turned them into b17.dvix and cs17.dvix. Thief wouldn't play them. I ran the Xvid install but it didn't do anything. Ahh, it's 2 A.M. Time to hit the sack.
Rename .divx to .avi and try it.

DivX and XVid are codecs, choosing them shouldn't change the file extension. AVI is a container, and thus you can use all manner of codecs for the video as well as audio encoding within an AVI. I use and recommend Prism by NCH Software.

The DivX "converter" seems to convert every popular format into xxx.dvix. Renaming the files to .avi worked. Yeehaw!
So, in the end, using the DviX converter crushed my 564 MB video down to 2.5 megs. (I chose the 720 HD format.) There are some pixel artifacts that give it a somewhat grainy look, but the trade-off is worth it. I'll doink around with the settings, but all in all, I'm satisfied.

Actually NewDark supports many codecs, but it looks like you have to change the extension to .avi anyway. I make uncompressed videos first, and then use Easy H.264 for compression. Rad Game Tools work pretty well too. Check (
