My knowledge about both of these games is basically zero. I only know that they're both RPGs, and UU was supposed to be very good. Since I've been looking for a while for an RPG world to break into, I reckon that thye upcoming Arx Fatalis could be a good sarting point. So first I have a few questions, which would help kindle my interest in these games.
1) How is Ultima Underworld related to more recent Ultima games (number 7,8,9 etc)?
2) Is there any way I can obtain a copy of Ultima Underworld?
3)Is there a sequel to UU?
4)When is Arx Fatalis expected to ship?
5)Is it another MMORPG like Everquest or Ultima Online, or is it single player with multiplayer options, or is it soley sing-player?
Thanksies-

UW1 was set between U4 and U5. UW2 was set between U7 and U7.5 EDIT : Oh yeah, the plots of the two are self-contained (they do draw upon the past of the series, but do not affect the main series much or at all) The first one involves characters unknown to players of the main series, and the second involves another attack by the Guardian upon Britannia.

I got my copies of the two games from the Interplay collection : "The Ultimate RPG Archive". You could try some abandonware sites?

Ultima Underworld 2 : Labyrinth of Worlds
I know nothing about Arx, so I'll let someone else answer those questions related to it. ;)

We'll probbly see Arx around Christmas.
And Arx is a single playwe RPG with a multiplayer mode.

Actually, as far as I know UW1 takes place between Ultima 6 and 7. Plus UW1 is hiding away in TTLG's file archive if you wanted to download it :)
Finally, while Christmas is optimistic, I personally heard early 2002 for Arx

Zerk is right... there is a 200 year gap between Ultima 6 and 7 (hence Iolo is an old man) and UW1 happens sometime in that gap.

Thanks guys. I'll definately take a closer inspection of the upcoming game..

They are
BOTH excellent games. <IMG SRC="thumb.gif" border="0"> Get them and play them. You need to. :)
I didn't know you were into the Ultima series, Digi. I thought you were more into the Underworld games than the rest of the series. Good to know. :)
Although, I did notice the new background image representing the (
http://www.stygianabyss.com/shownews.asp?id=2) stygianabyss.com section on the main page is artwork from the early Ultima series... :) I should have guessed, then.

Actually, I was playing UW1 this morning, and I don't know if it really is between U6 and U7, but I was definately wrong about it being between U4 and U5.
If you ask the Mountain-man armourer (Shak), about the Shield of Valour, he says something along the lines of it belonging to Lord Blackthorne, before he went off to be the conscience of the world. "Ach, that was a terrible mess." (Or something to that effect).
So, it was definately after U5, at least.

Well if I remember correctly, Ultima 6 takes place relativly recently after Ultima 5 (in Britannia time). However, in Ultima Underworld, in the intro, Lord Aldric (is that his name?) says "It's been years since he visited here", which would imply that it took place somewhere within the 200 year gap between U6 and U7.
