Some weapons way too weak... - by Nethawk

I don't know how many of you have ever fired off a 30-06 round, but even the heaviest bullet in this caliber travels over 2300 feet per second with over 3,000 lbs upon impact. I cannot see how ANY enemy in Deus ex can resist this kind of impact. I agree with needing skill points to upgrade training skills to steady our aiming, but firing one shot to the head - even when the enemy is alerted - should bring them down. And at point blank range, one head shot from the stealth pistol should be the same thing. Make the AI harder to kill by making them fidgety or by placing obstacles in between us and them. But please no more needing fifty five thousand hits to bring an AI down. It's just plain UNREALISTIC.

AMEN TO THAT! I've seen this same mistake repeated over and over in way too many games, and frankly it's just getting sad. Developers think that us "simple minded" gamers can't tell the difference in making the enemies harder to kill vs. reality. *Hmmm they won't notice that a few "point-blank assault rifle bursts to the chest being unable to kill someone" sounding a little far-fetched. I mean lets get real in these games today. Soldier of Fortune's gameplay and storyline may have sucked ass, but atleast the developer's were getting the right idea. If Warren Spector takes Deus Ex 2, keeps the same great storyline and gameplay, puts in the Unreal Tournament engine (or something better than the first Unreal engine), keeps the same great music score and sound effects, makes the enemy A.I. great, and makes body limbs targetable (we're talkin shots to the head lethal, no matter what, limbshots make them go in pain or limp or whatnot, etc.), then Warren will literally be on top of the gaming world. But hey, that's just my opinion. <IMG SRC="thumb.gif" border="0">

Ok then - so we agree. How about we do something about it? let's compile a "top ten" pet peeves with shooter games - from a fan's perspective, and I'll compile the list together from this forum and send it off pronto to PC GAMERS Magazine. I'm sure they'll put it in one of their issues. All shooter games should definitely have a "one shot to the head instantly kills an AI" within it. Locational damage is a must. Hey - we gamers are not only smart - we're demanding.

Yeah that pisses me off... Usually when I have the perfect attack going, sneak up behind a guard and bust a cap in his head from my stealth gun only to see him turn around and fire back or run off to alert more guards. Sometimes this happens with the standard issue pistol as well...

That's annoying.
It doesn't bug me quite so much when one of the sniper rifle totin' guards gets the jump on ME and only does severe damage to my head with the first bullet. :) Although, I imagine if I was playing realistic difficulty it would have killed me.

Yes, it is fairly annoying. I mean it was probably done for the sake of balance or something or maybe the designers could say that in the future everyone's skin will be a lot tougher or... er...
By the way MDA, enemies with sniper rifles can and do kill you on Realistic difficulty with one shot. It makes that bit in the Cathedral mission where there's a sniper on the bridge quite challenging. Because on Realistic their senses are slightly improved as well (not nearly enough though) so they can see you if you are dumb and don't take the proper sneaky precautions and shoot that sniper before he can get you.
