If you plug your microphone into the computer and make it so that you can talk while you're playing, you can turn on the EAX setting and your voice will echo, as if you're in the game.
A great place to try it would be the Hammer Cathedral from Thief 2x. Just talk into the microphone and your voice will sound as if it's actually in the game.
A couple of drawbacks for me are that my footsteps sound quieter than they actually are. So do the enemies'. This could make gameplay a bit harder, but if you understand how the AI and sound system work, you should be all right.

Yep, there was a thread about this a wile back. It will also cause someone's voice to echo if you are talking to them over VOIP while playing the game. This used to happen when my friend and I played Unreal online. It was cool! :)
