That was the most sucktastic demo install I've ever ran across.(
I didn't fair well either. 4/5 attempts to play the game resulted in a crash.

Well, all I can say as of playing the demo, is that it looks like they've done away with the 'tactics' of Dawn of War. 'Tactics' that chiefly involved:
1) OK, my guys are shooting at his guys.
2) His guys go all CC on mine
3) My guys run away.
4) His guys run away too or chase
5) Two thirds of our respective armies are chasing eachother like retards.
OH NO U DIDENT. So the AI isn't super brilliant. Play online. Also, playing as the Orks, (post Winter Assault) Chaos Marines, or perhaps even the Eldar and the Imperial Guard can change that up a bit.

I'm about to download it for the third time. I hit another link and installed it again last night, and the stupid thing still gave me the same missing dll error.
If it doesn't work again this time, I'm either gonna beg someone to send me the missing file, or just miss out on it.

try turning off your firewall if it's giving you a missing .dll error, that's what happened to me with the beta demo. Once it installs you can turn the firewall back on. No such trouble with the final demo.
You guys aren't trying the beta demo, are you?

No, unfortunately.
I'll probably grab the thing down the road, anyway.

Every download site I'd tried had "Company of Heroes Demo" in big bold letters across the top of the page, no mention of beta or anything like that. I'm gonna guess I was grabbing the official demo each time.
And the third download, this time from Fileplanet, gave me a "not a recognized win32 application" error when I tried to execute it. So now I've downloaded close to 6 gig of Company of Heroes goodness, and still have yet to play the game. It's kinda burnt me out, which sucks because I really wanted to play it.
I'll probably just follow Foldy's example and just buy it when I have the cash to spare.

Bloody hellfire. I see Comrade Gillen at Eurogamer gave this 10/10 - is it really that good? It hasn't really been on my radar at all purchase-wise before now.

It is seriously the best ground based RTS game yet made.
I forgot to mention in my previous fanjaculation post that Relic kind of sort of brought back the sensor view from the Homeworld games, which was something I found sorely lacking in Dawn of War.
And one of my favourite moments actually came from the skirmish map included in the demo. I went Airborne, and nearing the end I managed to save up around 800 munitions, so I sent a recon flight over the german base, followed immediately by a bombing run on the same trajectory, which blew the shit out of the base. Then I sent ANOTHER recon flight, which revealed a whole ton of Nazis abandoning their bunkers and running towards another part of the map, so I followed that recon flight with a strafing run, which mowed down pretty much all the germans.

I dunno about you, but I am -loving- this game too.
Any takers for co-op/vs. MP? :)
Renegen on 2/10/2006 at 17:49
Can you play as the germans?

No, only in skirmish.
