Bethesda has a pretty decent "sneak" system in Oblivion which comes in handy if you're a thief or an assassin, for quick and easy kills. Personally, I think Thief 4 would be in good hands if Bethesda decides to snatch it up. Long live Thief!

Emil is at Bethesda, don't forget. Ignore everything you know about Oblivion and just focus on that fact.
Yes, you should know who that is.

If he could steer the production in the "right" direction, and he could handle all the screaming at him by the fans to not taff it up, it would boost my confidence.

Oh we are all too aware of Emil's contribution and talent. If he is even the LEAST bit responsible for ANY of this, then he deserves a massive hug and big fat kiss on the noggin.
*Of course, that's IF the rumor is true at all.*

honestly, I really didn't think T3 was really all that bad . . . at least, not to the extent most users here do. But, there was quite a bit that could definitely be expanded upon . . .
Anyhow, IMHO, I'm not really sure what to make of a possible T4 through Beth, there's just something there that wouldn't sit right.
I'd at least hope that if T4 was to become a reality, that whichever dev grabs the title that they spend some time here for constructive criticism, what we'd like to see go into another installment.

I trust Bethesda. I'm still a little skeptical, but if this IS true, and they've had enough clamoring from fans about it on the Bethesda forums, I don't see how this could be bad news. And having Emil there is just frickin' awesome. I wonder if he's anything to do with this - I mean if it IS true at all.
jtr7 on 24/8/2007 at 01:08
It wouldn't be bad news. The trepidation would be that they would taff it up, or take it in a direction that would have the fans shouting "But that's not Thief!"
imperialreign on 24/8/2007 at 01:10
oh yeah, I'd totally trust his guidance in the project - I guess I'm just being skeptical right now, it's just rumor so why worry just yet?
per jtr's comment - that's why I'd like to see whatever dev go to the effort to communicate with the fan community here, to find out what points are important to us and to get an idea of what important aspects and facets we'd like to see kept intact and not 'morphed' (i.e. the climbing gloves in TDS)

And would EIDOS sell all rights to Thief, or would they partner, or would they make an agreement on who owns what?
failure2comply on 24/8/2007 at 01:13
I wonder if that would happen, considering how much of a great indication on how "not to make Thief" deadly Shadows was.
Imagine the creative license as well they could take with this: rather than simply focusing on medium length missions that are interrupted by cutscenes, they could have an actual full fledged open world - with amazing detail to graphics - and storyline. The wildlife, the NPC interactions, the alliances and feared long arm of the law, different clothing rather than wearing the same thing all the time, alchemy, magic effects, gorgeous topography and interior design of dark, clammy level layouts.
If this is true, I wonder what direction they'll take this in. One thing is for sure, they'd have to be given free creative license on how to make the game. We can't expect a carbon copy.
