knowing Eidos - they'd prob partner and keep their name on it like they do everything they get their hands on

If this is true, I wonder what direction they'll take this in. One thing is for sure, they'd have to be given free creative license on how to make the game. We can't expect a carbon copy.
and honestly, I'd hope it not to be. Personally, I feel that Garett's involvement should be laid to rest - as much as we love the character, it's time to bring about another personality. But, I'd be more worried about the playability being diluted, as it was in TDS - or a possible simultaneous console port development again.

As much as I loved the mission design of the first two games, well I didn't really love it but it worked, when Thief 3 came onto the scene the open endedness, which was done poorly IMO, was a refreshing change. I think that whoever ends up doing a Thief 4 would be wise to do everything that failure2compy mentioned to above. I know I would love it.

Good point. I think the use of disguises would be cool - like for the Hammerite mission. Or have safe zones where you're hidden anyway. Heck - this time you could actually HAVE your own little place to call home rather than float about between missions. Gameplaywise, my friends tell me that Morrowind and Oblivion both have tons of Thief fans, so maybe they'd take their direction from them somewhat. here's hoping anyhow.

Of course, almost any increase in player's freedom of movement and choice, or decrease of restriction is gonna be welcome. The more varied and "natural" the AI the better. If we could interact with elements of the Thief Universe only hinted at, read about, or seen in the briefings/cutscenes, than the technology will have caught up to the grand vision.
If you look at what LGS did with great limitations, it's really impressive as hell.:wot:
I'm waiting for the day when technology will allow me play a Thief game with burricks, horses, cobrabeasts, the thieves' highway, the RIVER, rope arrows, swimmable water (limited to canals and swimming pools and not overdone), seeing the RIVER as we cross one of the three bridges, wet footprints when the player or an AI steps in water, water dripping and puddling under the player after a swim, AI that can detect and follow a trail of wet footprints, AI that can smell the player if the player's been in the sewer, city areas built so any of these things make sense in the context they are played, pirate-speak and pagan-speak like TDP/Gold, FORESTS, bear pits, more quadrupeds, birds, snakes, bats, fish, horse-drawn carriages, Hammers with pikes (and a mallet on the belt), smart Keepers (if any), smart and deadly Enforcers that no one can see or interact with most of the time (if any), other items the Keepers have lost over the hundreds of years they've been keeping, less pagan shaman and wand-wielders, more established Hand Mages active in the city, more competition from the Thieves' Guild, use of elemental crystals by other AI, other uses of the crystals as hinted at or told already in texts, Keepers and other AI who may jump at but aren't fooled by noise-maker arrows, the Baron, the Baron's place, places mentioned in texts, Blackbrook AI, soldiers and veterans of the war with Blackbrook. And since I could keep going like this forever, I'll end by saying the next Thief I'd like to see (I'm not holding my breath here, folks) will have expansion packs with side-quests taking the player all over The City with some overlap to maintain cohesiveness and congruousness and contiguity with The City. The game will be supported for as long as technology allows, especially since the SDK/editor will be released along with the game so the community can work out the kinks, make FM's, and keep it compatible with newer systems.
Alas! 'Tis a pipe-dream. Nothing more. I take back my previous "no comment" comment.:p

Nice to see you thinking about it though. :)

Heh.
I've been thinking about it for most of 6 years, now.:o

well, I totally agree with what all jtr said - how many of us wouldn't want an environment that believable!! Hell, I think most of us would give up our real lives and just exist on Thief at that point :D
Either way, I think there was a lot of great stuff that can be taken from TDS - i.e. the graphics, much better AI - but still a lot that should defi be taken from T1/T2. A T4 undertaking would be a perfect balancing act to satisfy us nit-picky taffers, though, and we wouldn't be the real bottom line . . . which is what really matters to a dev . . .

Well, considering how much buzz DX3 generated, I think it's safe to assume that someone has his or her ears open to push it further with Looking Glass' former baby.
UBISOFT with DX3, and Bethesda with Thief. What a combo. :thumb:

Aaaand to bring this thread back around, we'll just have to see what happens. If any company cares to hear our varied opinions on the matter, they know we're here.:thumb:

OXM's retarded. They were crowing that they had an exclusive BioShock demo even in the face of 2k's representative saying "no they don't" -- I think they just make stuff up.
