I've just reinstalled Deus Ex after upgrading my machine, and I'm having problems with the sound. When I start the game after booting the PC, everything is fine. If I quit the game to desktop, and go back in, all the sound except the music is distorted and garbled. The music, however plays fine. Every time I start DE after that, I get bad sound. Only a reboot will sort it, and only for the first time the game is loaded. No amount of playing around with sound settings in the game or on the PC has solved it.
Since I last ran the game successfully, I have upgraded to WinXP, and I have recently upgraded my gfx card to a GF3 Ti200, running 27.52 drivers. I have other drivers, official and beta and none have solved the problem. I also installed a Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical. I wouldn't mention it except for the suspicion that the radio transmitter is frying my brain and also Deus Ex.
My system in full. All drivers should be considered the latest for Win XP.
Gigabyte 71xE4 running a TBird 750
384Mb PC100 RAM
PNY Verto GeForce 3 Ti200
Suspicious mouse outlined above.
SB Live 1024 Value
Maxtor 20gb HDD
Dirext X 8 and 8.1 (to no effect)
Deus Ex has the single player patch installed.
Please help. This is winding me up a treat.

i had the same with the same sound card prob so i switched the irq of the snd card found that for some reason it was being shared with my nic, i changed it to a free irq and that fixed it

Device manager isn't showing any conflicts. Also, the "change IRQ" tabs are greyed out. Any idea how to enable them?

Okay, I've sorted it now. For anyone else who gets the problem, you can solve it by either running in Win98 Compaatibility Mode or by changing the latency setting in the galaxy sound section of deusex.ini to 60.
Thanks to the nice man that emailed me with the solution.
