OOOO, it's that Mike guy again! HE ALWAYS DISAPPEARS AND I HATE HIM.
Yeah, I know. Sorry about that! I don't even know how many people are still on this forum that remember me so-- hi everybody! I'm the guy who wrote reviews over (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124349&highlight=general+fan+mission) HERE, wherein I would make out-of-date pop culture references and occasionally talk like a pirate, for some reason.
I feel like a pretty big jerk for just up and disappearing for so long...I love this place and all the people here, but the last couple years have been one'a those very specific "Hey, you're thirty, maybe get your shit together?" periods of my life. So, without boring you with my life story, I did. I have a degree, a job I actually like and an apartment I don't want to burn down.
But what I didn't have until today is sweet,
sweeet Thief-- and GOD have I missed it. I finally got Thief II up and running on my new computer and all I want to do is wallow in all of the FMs I've missed over the last couple years.
Which brings me to the point of this thread: what
have I missed? Like, what would be considered ESSENTIAL PLAYING since, say, 2014? The last big FM I played was Sturmdrang Peak. It's also worth noting that I just recently started playing "Coaxing the Spirit," and it's fantastic!
Also, a couple other things:
1. I just recently discovered that Yandros is still working on Death's Cold Embrace, which made me fist-pump the air in excitement. Even through these years when I wasn't really playing any Thief I would stop here occasionally to see if it was released, thinking "I CANNOT MISS THIS ONE."
2. Over a year ago I started playing an FM that I had to quit due to technical difficulties, but I was really digging it. I completely forgot the title, but it involved a giant mansion with a mine below it, and a big-ol' vampire conspiracy. It had some 100% pitch dark areas that needed to be navigated with a flare, including some vampire filled mine tunnels. Ring any bells? I'd really like to finish that one...
And again...hi everybody! Sorry for ditching you guys for so long. This place has basically been my second home since highschool (or...y'know...if not a "home" at least a really nice couch I use to sleep on), and being away for so long suuuuuuucked. :erg:

So, what'd I miss?
Probably a good bit. (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146863) This, for one thing. Looks like you must have heard me on some level.
Anyway, welcome back. It's about damn time! I'm happy to hear that you got some parts of your life sorted, but I hope all this adult stuff hasn't dampened your inner moppet. I need me some The Mike reviews. Seriously, though, welcome back. It's good to see you here again.
I can't think of FMs atm, but I'll come back after I've given it some thought. Meanwhile, the mission you're trying to remember is (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144417) Death's Turbid Veil, by nicked.

The Mike is in the house! Woohoo! Great to see you back here mate, and having gotten your shit together too. Congrats! Although adulting sucks.
I am in fact still working on DCE, but took 10 months off from it to work on (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146706) Waterfront Racket with some guy named Tannar. It's an homage to noir detective stories so if you like those, check it out, and make sure you're running NewDark 1.24 too before you play any more missions.
I play very few missions, so won't be very good at suggesting any others, but there are plenty of helpful folks around here who probably won't hold a grudge against you for abandoning us for so long, and will give some recommendations.

Tannar:
RIGHT! I even passed that title in New Darkloader (which is also wonderful, by the way) and thought "I don't remember that FM, but I feel like it's good..."
Thanks so much, Tannar! I'm also downloading the latest FM you made with Yandros: Waterfront Racket. It sounds so directly up my alley...I can't wait. When I'm done with it I'll even write you up a review, if I can still remember how-make-the-funny-words.
Also, thanks for the birthday thread! I didn't check for one this year because I totally didn't expect one, having been a weirdo lurker for so long.

Hi the Mike. Good to see you. We've had several old members show up again, like frobber and Christine, and it's been a pleasant surprise for us. Sadly, we also lost Lady Rowena though.
As for FMs, haven't played loads of the recent ones, but there's some good stuff in them. Waterfront Racket is a good place to start, though be warned that it focuses on storytelling and a lot of the classic Thief gameplay has been cropped to encourage tense sneaking over creative solutions.

I dunno. Some people. Think they can just breeze in and out of here as they please! Hope you're not expecting to just jump back onto the hero list.

Welcome back! We've announced a (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146501) major campaign for Thief Gold and development has been pretty steady thus far (we've been in the process of adding new player tools these past few days).

I'LL EARN MY WAY BACK ON THAT LIST DAMMIT, I'VE DONE IT BEFORE.
*puts on sunglasses* *training montage*R Soul: One of the first things I got was NewDarkLoader! I tried FMSel for about two minutes before deciding I hated it, so I'm sooo glad this exists. You are a national treasure!
Bosh: Thanks for the list, dude! Now to go through my darkloader list and see how many I've already downloaded without playing...
skacky: I already posted in the thread, but DAMN that looks impressive! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
