Just wanted to open a thread to talk about the possibilities regarding doing a speed building contest for Thief/Dromed etc, and get opinions from players and authors alike.
The 48 hour contest took place over 2 years ago, and it netted quite a few entries. I'm pretty sure most the authors had fun with it ( I know I did), but I wonder if the players did too. Some of the missions were unfinished, maybe a bit sloppy and the like, but that's to be expected with a contest like that. Did players for the most part still enjoy the final missions?
I was kind of thinking of expanding things into a slightly longer window, maybe a 72 or 96 hour contest. Thought that might up the quality just a little bit. We could even do a week. But no longer. I think the idea is to have some fun with getting a decent number of missions released, but not detracting too much for author's other projects.
Timewise, I'd think we'd want to do this within the next 4-5 weeks, or if not then wait until next year, so the holidays don't get in the way. Or vice versa.
Thoughts?

I sure would like to try my hand at another speed exercise. I made a map in four days for a speed build session for Quake last week.

I remember enjoying a lot of those entries, especially FireMage's one with Basso's wedding, so another contest like this could be quite enjoyable :thumb:.

I wouldn't mind trying my hand at the ol speed build again :laff:
96 hours or a week tops sounds best for quality tbh :)

I thoroughly enjoyed them and thought the quality was excellent. I like having something 'short but beautifully marked' to play and think that the time constraint often 'focuses the mind' particularly well. :)

I agree. I had a lot of fun with the 48 hour contest missions.

While I will fight the urge to enter this time, I agree that a slightly longer timeframe would be good.

IIRC, the 48hour contest was set so with the thinking of one "weekend". I believe that dromed logs hours and it wasn't supposed to be 48 straight hours but 48 total hours.
Well what could you all do with 96 hours (2 "weekends") within a span of, say, 10 days, no other restrictions?

The 48 hour contest specifically called for completing a mission in 48 consecutive hours. Weekends really didn't have much to do with it, except for the fact that it's the most common time people have off from work. But the originally contest allowed for any 48 hour period within a 10 day span.

I don't know If I'll be able to construct a mission with the same quality as Half-Assed Wedding, but I swear I am ready to give another try to such kind of contest! :)
