Is no one playing this on PS4??!
I don't have a PS4 (yet) but this is on my list when I do. I thought there were a bunch of people with PS4s and this is just out and getting good reviews. Was hoping for the TTLG hot take. henke?

I'm playing it. It's a good game that does some things extremely well (the city, traversal, the game's personality). It also does the things you expect of an open-world game, but I think they're done in a way so you can easily pick up a few collectibles in between missions, rather than getting all OCD about it.

It looks pretty great, but I'll probably wait for a sale.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the story once you're done with it, Thirith.

I've spent most of my time getting around the city, since I love the feel of the game's traversal. I unlocked all the towers (yes, that trope) in the first couple of hours, but it didn't feel like a chore because unlocking them is quickly done and it's given me a feel for the controls. Being stuck on the ground in the next open-world game will feel like a major imposition.
As far as the plot is concerned, I'm not all that far in, but it strikes me as standard MCU-flavoured comic book fare. (It's not connected to the MCU, but in terms of tone it isn't miles away.) The characters are likeable, and while I don't really know the Spider-Man lore all that well, my impression is that they mix up things enough to keep them interesting for the big fans. There's definitely a lot of fun to be had in the side mission conversations, as well.
At this stage, my main problem with the game is that I need to unlearn my reflexes from four Arkham games. At a glance, Spider-Man's combat seems to do much of the same as the Batman epics, but the rhythms are different and the combat is altogether more athletic. It's not ultra-hard, but you definitely don't quite get by just mashing the buttons. For me, it's just the right amount of challenge (which means that it'll probably be too easy for many - but then I'm only playing it on the middle difficulty level).

Jim Sterling liked it, and it looks like fun.

Thrith - do you get the impression that the "busywork" is a bit dull as well? He commented that the fun combat even makes up for repetitive open world mission stuff.

Just about everything I've seen of this game tells me it's going to be bright, undemanding, flashy fun - Spiderman's a good fit for Insomniac's expertise in that department. Plus it looks absolutely gorgeous.
Looks like that critical mass of quality titles forcing me to get a PS4 is approaching - between Nu God of War, Uncharted 4/The Lost Legacy, The Last Guardian, Shadow of the Colossus, Horizon: Zero Dawn and this, my resolve is starting to crack.

Watch Mojo numbered it the best Spider Man game of all time. I say it's too soon to say. Ask again in a year when people have had time to see everything with non-rose tinted glasses.

@scumble
I've only played 5-6 hours, but so far I'd say the busywork is shallow but fun. It hasn't started feeling like a chore, but it might still do so later. The game isn't original, but it's executed well and with personality. If you're okay with that, it isn't dull, but if you expect something novel or something that has depth, chances are you'll come away bored. It's like a great pasta dish - if you want pasta, you'll like it, but it ain't Guide Michelin haute cuisine.

You know seeing through rose-tinted glasses means look back on something fondly, right? You don't look though them now and then discard them later.

What I was meaning was on how we all tend to get swept up in it all when a new game or movie comes out. Zomg best game ever type thing. Then later we're more able to look and give a more considered perspective.
