Splinter Cell 5 is no longer vapourware. New teaser released, emphasis on TEASER.

I don't know what to think of this project. Being a master of the shadows and utilising high-tech spy gadgetry was the main appeal of this series. I don't like the sound of a real world Assassin's Creed, one series of games like that is enough.
Hopefully they've improved the game significantly over that alpha footage from a couple years ago. The brawling mechanics in particular looked horrible.

In my opinion the PC version of Double Agent was on the verge of being garbage. If this installment will be an improvement in the technical aspect; closer to SC3 than 4 in terms of stability and performance, interface; again, closer to SC3 than 4 with its annoying image-based action control, and gameplay-wise; once again closer SC3 and its less timed nature; I will consider buying it. Time and reviews will tell.

I approve as well. I tried the demo for Double Agent and found it horrible in both the graphics department and gameplay. I just recently got a computer with shader 3.0 capability so wasn't able to get the game when it was released. Now I'm glad I couldn't.
SC3 on the other hand was the best in the series, although the first was pretty damn good as well.

After the shitbomb that SC1 was and the Halo-like hype that surrounds this series you couldn't pay me to play another one of these things.
Oh, also lol Tom Clancy.

For once I agree with dethtoll, this series is seriously overrated and is a poor excuse for a stealth game.

I'd rate the third game basically on par with Thief 2. Granted, I tend to find Thief 2 the weakest of the trilogy, but still.

i like sc3 but it didn't reach thief2 heights. it was just ... decent. the limited interaction with your environment alone makes splinter cell 1-x a lesser try in stealth gaming.

If they put a twist in and really did do something different with the game play of this one it could be fun. the whole "hiding in plain sight" thing could work, or it could just be a gimick. If they shifted the game play to this type of Spy game rather than a stealth/sneak game they might actually breathe some life back into the series.
Stuff like reversible coats and the like.

I really liked the last-gen version of Double Agent. Chaos Theory was decent, but I just couldn't be bothered to finish it. I have all 4 games for either PC or Xbox, w/1 and 4 being my faves. I would eventually like to try the next-gen version of DA, just to see what it is like.
Anyway, the gameplay is getting stale, so a re-boot is welcome in my eyes.
