I'd rate the third game basically on par with Thief 2. Granted, I tend to find Thief 2 the weakest of the trilogy, but still.

If they put a twist in and really did do something different with the game play of this one it could be fun. ... If they shifted the game play to this type of Spy game rather than a stealth/sneak game they might actually breathe some life back into the series.

Anyway, the gameplay is getting stale, so a re-boot is welcome in my eyes.
What. That's like saying Thief's gameplay is getting stale, so they should put a twist in and really did do something different with the gameplay in Thief4, and shift the gameplay to this type of Spy game to breathe some life back into the series. Sounds silly to me.

Splinter Cell is my favorite franchise after Thief, so I'm very much looking forward to this next installment. While there were some faults with the previous game, I found it to be enjoyable. I would prefer, of course, that this fifth game go back to the shadow-stealth gameplay of the first three games, but I'm being optimistic regardless of what they do, and will be getting the game as soon as it's out.

Thief hasn't suffered the endless franchising that Splinter Cell has. Besides, I meant something along the lines of a new character, storyline, etc...not an entirely new style of game.

I really liked the last-gen version of Double Agent.
'Last-gen' referring to. . .?

I was reacting to all the 'gameplay' comments. I'd prefer if the game was the usual shadow-stealth gameplay with improvements, not something entirely new with the name strapped on.

Xbox and PS2 versions.

Well, the Xbox/PS2 version was completely different than the Xbox 360/PC version, and widely regarded as superior.

Cool. Just making sure you understood the comment's meaning.

I'm laughing, but it's still my duty to point out that you probably haven't played Chaos Theory, and are therefore (-placeholder for some biting webforum sarcasm-).
Anyway, Chaos Theory was brilliant except for the bits near the end where it suffered from Vampire:Bloodlines railroading syndrome.

You are, of course, correct. :D
