SPOILER #2!! Constantine's collection.... - by jtr7

Here are all the things on Constantine's mantel, as far as I can tell:
1. A parchment (not fully seen here) showing people fleeing from a herd of deer, the largest of which represents the Trickster.
2. A warty, yellow, ornamental gourd basket with brown laces, with almonds around it?
3. A figurine of a ram, (or a bantha?:p). A connection between the Satanic horned goat, Baphomet, and the satyr-like Trickster?
4. Pan pipes, because the Trickster's a kind of satyr, similar to Pan?
5. A grunting shrunken head, wearing a kind of hood with pearls dangling from the edge, and bound in the back like a pony-tail?
6. A raven (or crow?), invoking Brandon Lee or Poe?
7. A fetus in a spherical cage of woody vines. It resembles the drawing on the map of the Maw of Chaos.
8. A clock, with the little hand at "8" and the big hand at "12." The frame of the clockface is a kind of centipede with a lizard-like tail [or a creature is eating the centipede]. The "dots" indicating 3, 6, 9, and 12, appear to be beetles or some kind of hard, round insect.

That's an interesting point to raise.
The dirty rumors surrounding the Knights Templar not only included allegedly worshiping Baphomet; there was also a nasty rumor about them worshiping the head of John the Baptist, mentor of Jesus.
It's difficult hold truth to most of these rumors, little support is their for them; plus King Philip IV ( or "the Fair") and Pontiff Clement V were jealous of the popularity and desirous for their land and wealth. These rumors are believe to have been fabricated at least in part by Philip and Clement to help damage the Knights' reputation.
I'm sorry, you probably know this already.

No no. Your post is fine, metal dawn. Thank you. I would love to hear how the art department decided on these images. I know some things were decided simply and on a whim, while other things were discussed and deliberate. Thank you for your thoughts.:thumb:

SPOILER!!! -- There's a Thief Hints and Spoilers forum!! For posting hints!!! And spoilers!!!!!!!
Digital Nightfall on 28/11/2006 at 20:24
This post is in the right forum. This is a discussion topic, and has nothing to do with gameplay hints. And his warning that there are plot spoilers is also thoughtful.
jtr7, you missed one. What about the black bird - a crow or a raven, between the head and the fetus?
jtr7 on 28/11/2006 at 22:35
Thank you for the concern, ZylonBane. I thought about it before I posted and tried not to give away the story (too much).:)
Thanks, Digital Nightfall! Until you mentioned it, I never noticed the eye and beak before! I swear I couldn't see anything when I turned up the brightness.:nono: My first post is updated....:thumb:
So now we have eight items, the clock says it's eight o'clock, the end-game involves eight items... Not really a pattern, yet.
Digital Nightfall on 28/11/2006 at 23:37
I would not suggest looking for patterns like that... it is more likely that they just told the artist to come up with some cool looking strangeness for his mantle and he just made it up as he went.
But think about this? Where is Garrett? This is Viktoria's apartment. Why are these items in Vik's apartment? (My first answer is, always, I don't think LGS really thought about it this hard, but for the sake of the argument...) He probably wanted to show it off to impress Garrett. Why these items? Because they all fit in a sack and could be easily carried through The City. It is his entire collection? Doubtful, and the above adds weight to that. Did we see anything collection-like in Con's mansion? No, not at all, but I doubt that was his real home... It's more likely that the entire thing was designed just to make Garrett run a gauntlet. Con's real home is somewhere else (no, not The Maw... The Maw is sacred ground, and not home to anyone, not even Con.)
But let me stress that I think this is more thought put into it than probably went in at LGS... the artist himself may have invested some considerations into the choice of items on the mantle, but I highly suspect that these were not planned artifacts each with a hidden and relevant meaning.
But when does that ever stop US from coming up with that sort of thing, eh?

I know!:D It's just so much fun speculatin'! I should've added a ":p" to the last sentence of my previous post, 'cause I know that everything we read into it is purely hypothetical. I hope people aren't reluctant to share their thoughts, though.

I just made that up.
