There's a thread title...
I'm not sure if this has ever been brought up in the first years of TTLG, before. This is one that Daniel Thron or Mark Lizotte may be able to answer, but until the day the artists who worked on Dark Project stop by and tell all, we're left to speculate. So then... what may this symbol represent? The Maw of Chaos is the Cradle of Life? Life begins in the womb of Mother Earth?
The symbol drawn on the map:Inline Image:

I always figured it represented all those giant monster-containing eggs floating around in the maw.

Twould be the logical conclusion.

I don't see how you're getting that.
If it were just the map, then maybe - but it's also the mantelpiece sculpture. Perhaps it ties into something else with regards to Contantine himself.
But this is the kind of thread I love; too bad my main computer is still fried or else I'd fire up the Maw and take a look-see. Thanks for posting it, jtr7.

I never thought the ornament and the floating eggs were related, at all. But then, never got a good look at the ornament, or gave it much thought.
The ornament struck me as more of a Buddha-in-meditation than something (Constantine himself?) in a foetal position.
I do remember that when I first encountered the floating eggs in The Maw, I thought they were an elevator. One of the strangest moments in any game I played, when after jumping on one, it "docked", I dropped to the ground, and a Crayman seemed to emerge, unblinking, from my body. :laff:
He just scuttled off, taking no notice of me.

Yeah, it's frustrating to be cut off from the fun, like that!:nono:
Speaking of which: I now own Thief Gold and Deadly Shadows, so the Encyclopaedia Project will surge ahead for a while. That's why I'm thinking about this stuff. I'm looking for entry material and I'm noticing these other things. I'm off to post another related thread!

I have nothing to say.

Among the symbolism, I could help but notice what appears to be a hypercube near the "fetus."

One of the Angel Metatron's symbols, the Flower of Life, contains (among other noticeable patterns) a hypercube. Look to the center.
Any connections, there, maybe?
Okay, there probably is no connection, but the Metatronic Cube came to mind when I saw it .
Forget it, I guess.

Your comments are appreciated, metal dawn. Interestingly, I thought of the hypercube, too. The first word that popped into my head to describe the shape was "tesseract." With all the portals, and the Trickster's ability to slash a "door" in the fabric of time/space, a representation of hyper-dimensional concepts makes sense to me. There are additional interesting ideas to discuss in a later thread about some of those symbols. I need to check the (

Ah! Here's a Keeper kind of glyph also seen on the Maw map:

http://thief.nov.ru/Glyps/glyph006_s.gifI'll have to find out where else it's used in TDP/Gold or TMA.
Thank you for the comments.
And thank you, DinkyDogg, for the laugh!
