Fuuuuuck.
Easily the most horrible thing I've ever seen on a screen.
I've read the books and was prepared for quite a lot, but the stabbing of Talisa, who is not in the book was 100% off-piste and showed me a limit I didn't realise I had. Totally out of the blue.
I've never been the biggest fan of stabbing in films for some reason. Notable scenes include the one in Goodfellas and another that comes to memory is one from Zodiac, but the stabbing of a womb to kill an unborn baby...I very nearly got up and left the room involuntarily as I felt I needed to get away from it.
Shiiiiiit.
Maybe it's because I have nephews and nieces and ambitions of having kids, but it looks like that's one thing I seem to have no tolerance for. Not that I'm against depicting it per se, just I seem to be a complete wuss when faced with that kind of thing.
I'm in a horrible mood now :(

As far as I can recall (it's been awhile since I read the books), Talisa was in the book (don't remember if it was by that name?), but she didn't get killed(?); I don't remember Robb (in the book) bringing her to Walder Frey's with him - I thought she stayed in camp. I believe she went to Riverrun to stay with Catelyn's relatives (House of Tully) after the deaths of Robb & his mother. I could be wrong about this (damn my memory anyhow) but I seem to recall feeling sorry for her after Robb's death because she wasn't pregnant and therefore had no hope of having a child to carry on his line. Of course, I could just be making all this up as a result of a lousy memory and wishful thinking.
You're right about that scene being horrible though, faetal. I cringed during the stabbing scene and had trouble watching Robb crawl over to her body. Then again, GoT hasn't been pulling punches on anything; sex, violence, death, or disease. Seems just when I get over my initial shock of 'Oh no they did NOT just show that', they promptly shock me even more.

Talisa, the Volantine lady turned medic isn't in the book - Robb marries Jeyne Westerling of a known house of Westeros and yes, she stays in Riverrun for the red wedding and later ends up as as hostage. Talisa is a fully-fleshed out character compared with Jeyne who was essentially just a plot device to give the Freys a reason to turn against Robb. Jeyne was never pregnant either - I guess they just threw that in to allow for more shock & loss.
I'm feeling a bit more calm now, particularly after watching a Bad Lip Reading of The Walking Dead to cheer me up.

Throughout I was thinking... "OK. This is where so-and-so arrives in the nick of time for the rescue - or - one of the Starks wakes up from their terrible nightmare and we see it was all just a dream....."
But nobody woke up or showed up.
Nice touch having silent closing credits.

I thought there was some debate about whether or not she is pregnant. It is never said one way or the other, but many think she could be.

This episode in particular serves to highlight exactly why I dislike GRRM, his writing and his input on the series.

Whatever else you say about him, Martin is a good storyteller. I have to admit though, that I started losing interest a bit in Arya's arc in his last book. Things were getting more than a little strange with that girl's story. I figure by the time he comes out with the latest in the series I'll have to go back and reread the books from the beginning.
Thanks for the input faetal; I couldn't remember the name of the woman Robb marries, but I remember that in the book she didn't accompany Robb to Walder Frey's.

This must be the "JR gets shot" of the 2010s I guess. (and I haven't been watching. *tsk*)

I have to admit that I'm wondering how he's going to wrap up the various arcs. His interest in highlighting the realistically dispensable nature of everyone seems to take priority over the story leading anywhere.
I'm hooked either way, so he's doing something right, would just appreciate a conclusion to feel like one.
