What in the nine hells does this have to do with Thief running correctly on modern systems?
May have gotten a little overzealous there. I was just expecting to see more fanfare from a rerelease of Thief on a more convenient medium but it seems to have been marked down considerably due to credit and the usage of fan fixes. I attributed all the negativity to less than accurate reasons.

They're making money off the premise that you can get classic PC games up and running on modern hardware. At $10, Thief Gold should be fully patched/updated/tested and working, and anything less is just them ripping you off.
Exactly!

Breaking out of retirement from this board just to rant a little: b1kerdude from GOG, seriously. For all his good intentions, his mini-crusade will eventually start to step on a few toes from both players and GOG staff.
Fair point which is why I requested GoG delete my account, I said what I had to say. But the fact someone from GoG came over demonstrates gog arent all bad and maybe they will do something about it.

Er, the fact that GoG's mission statement is they sell you games that will work on modern systems.....

Hi,
The prices are set by the publishers and if we want to sell the games we have to follow their instructions. We will contact them to see if there is something we can do
Just got a reply from gamersgate, in regard to them charging £8.99 (thats $14) for Thief Dark project. Its becoming more clear that Square Enix/Eidos are the villian in this situation, but also said, the publisher should be patching this game to work on modern system, which I bet they haven't done thus far.

The installer just got updated and the videos will now work without having to manually register the Indeo codec.

Regardless of everything else, I can think of a couple of companies who could learn a thing or two about public relations from GOG - makes a pleasant change.

Enjoy what LGS has given us during their brief stay in the industry
I know you mean well, but I wouldnt exactly call it brief. Since the day Neurath started the whole thing and even earlier than that, LGS accomplished more in their 10 years than most other companies could ever dream of. LGS will always be an integral part of this industry, as their roots run deeper than a huge percentage of all the others. Im just saying.

GOG now at least has my official permission to use the soundtrack. :)

Although I still don't think including ddfix by default with any game is a good idea, because of the in-game resolution menu problems and the colour key thing. (Edit: Unless Jermi fixed them since I stopped playing? But then it's not my code and it's no help anyway...)
I made some fixes for color keying, but it may be impossible to make it work for all sw+hw combinations. A good example of why ddfix couldn't possibly be included in the GOG release. There would be a lot of complaints from customers.
I would gladly give GOG the permission to use my code for free if it would help them create a better version of Thief. But that would be totally ass-backwards, when it's easier and quicker to make the corresponding fixes in the source and compile a new executable. (Assuming the complete source code exists.) And the result would be better and more compatible than ddfix.

In fact it would be very cool of them if they did that and they let the community at large use said fixed .exe

Thank you, Thiev!
