No. You need the mask to get to one of the levers. It has nothing to do with the map.

Door with the frobbable sword above it - there's a message about four lights.
I went up to where there are four candles, but I can't figure out the order to put them out and relight them.
Okay. I got this one. It was easy actually. Tip -
Look at the height of the candles.
Anyway, as far as I remember:
First thing you need is the mask; examine the church from the outside; look high, and remember a note thats also somewhere on the outside (on a wall i think).
If you're still stuck after having accomplished that:
drop the mask into the fountain in the outside area. (drop it with 'R', don't just frob the basin with it)
That should get you going again...

What about the two bonus objectives: there was something about a haunt and something about a candle...but what about them?
Eshaktaar on 6/1/2007 at 14:10
One bonus objective appears when all the loot has been found.
For the other one you have to frob the smallest candle (where you find the dagger) a few times to start things rolling.

Since I've seen others bump this old thread, I'll assume I won't be flogged for doing so as well.
I finally played through this one last night. Great fun! The author balanced challenge with accessibility in a fantastic fashion.
So many keyhunts, riddles or puzzles require tolerating a little frustration or tedium because the designer tries too hard to be clever without giving the player enough to work with on a purely fun level.
This mission really hit the fun in a challenge so I could feel satisfied without having to work through the usual frustration. All the riddles and puzzles were interesting without being too obscure, all the puzzles made sense within the story and world and weren't just abstract, and all the hints were clear, helpful and well-written.
Tonight I'll try to ghost it while also trying to find the secret I missed and the two bonus objectives. I'm looking forward to replaying it. :)

Ghosted this FM on the first try. Awsome job Eshaktaar! :thumb: (As usual.) Great fun. The puzzles were all solvable with the information provided (assuming you can get the
map
to manifest. I went back to that area
and contemplated my navel
several times trying to figure out the hint before the magic happened. I guess you have to be in exactly the right position for it to work. That was the only negative to my first run through.
The
haunt-room
was particularly challenging to ghost. I had to give up on straight sneaking and used
the 3 moss-arrows.
And even then, placement was very critical to success, as was perfect timing, both going in and coming back. There were several times I almost gave in to frustration and
wasted the haunt,
but didn't. And in the end I had the satisfaction of making it through unnoticed by anyone.
Found both secrets, however I only collected
135
in loot, and not the whole
160.
No Perfect Thief for me this time. :(
I'm trying to remember where I found loot. I think this is it:

Outside, behind the statue
Two vases on the shelving as you enter the non-crypt
Near the dagger door
In the center of the Clue Room ceiling
Behind the headboard of Lady Whatshername's (Randall, I think) bed

What did I miss? I'll bet it was "obvious."
As to the bonus objectives: Huh??
I did get the
bell
to manifest in
the Useless Room.
But
the sign said not to ring,
so I didn't, of course . . . without saving first (curiosity an all that). When I saw all those
hammer-haunts
I quickly reloaded. If there is a way to
* retrieve the rope arrow while
* getting down silently
* and not being noticed by the crowd in the room
I did not see it. Besides, no bonus objective appeared with the
haunts.
Hints please.
Iceblade on 14/7/2007 at 17:47
Bell:
When you ring that bell, your supposed to kill the haunts...made for great fun with all the non-melee tools I had. There a bonus objective associated with this, btw.
Loot:
As for the loot, there is one cup low to the ground in the wall on the way to the area above the clue room and that is about 15, there are also some coins behind the shutters outside.
