I saw the trailer posted for this on RPS, and immediately made a beeline for the official site:
(
http://stalinvsmartians.com/en/)
This looks like it may end up being the most ridiculous RTS ever made. Aside from the trailer cutting between a caricaturized dancing Stalin and standard RTS gameplay with soviet armies slashing apart really colorful cartoon aliens, well...everything else is totally ridiculous too. The official wallpaper is ridiculous, the FAQ is ridiculous, the gameplay concepts are ridiculous. I'm fairly certain I'm buying this the day it comes out.
A game so bizarre it took 3 Russian game studios to develop it. This is serious shit.

From the FAQ:
Vopros: Are you communists?
Otvet: Don't be stupid,
all Russians are communists!
Okay, I'm getting this as soon as it's released too.

A concept on thin ice, it's about the same if a game like "Hitler vs. Turtle Ninjas" was released in Germany. I mean it's not right to play with such things.

But killing Nazis for enjoyment in Return to Castle Wolfenstein or COD is?

I mean when you make such persons like Hitler or Stalin funny it nurtures tolerance to them.

Either that, or it makes people who
actually revere them look all the more ridiculous. I'm German, and I genuinely think Dr Strangelove is one of the best movies I've ever seen, moreso in its historical context.
As for the game, the concept is amazing, but I'm not entirely sure what to think of the game. Even in the trailer, you can see that zooming in and out doesn't work smoothly, which looks a bit jarring. I have the sneaking suspicion that the game might end up lacking that final bit of tweaking and polishing, possibly because three different development studios have had their hands on it.

I would expect absurdist humor to have the exact opposite effect, frankly. If a 500 foot tall dancing Stalin makes someone revere him, they probably have other issues as well.

Vopros: Can we play as Stalin himself?
Otvet: Yes, but not from the start. Stalin is our commander and he gives us orders. Closer to the grand finale he will appear on the battlefield as a playable unit - a huge colossus, five times higher than any other creature. Just like it was in the real life.

I hope it includes Stalin's army of man-ape hybrid warriors.

While I wouldn't have any more problems with a game that features a humorous role for a monster like Stalin than I would more personal monsters like
Bin Laden and the Plane Slammin' Sixteen vs Zombie Men from Jupiter, or
Goebbels vs Gerbils, NewNumbers has a very valid point here.

He's saying something a bit different than that, and you know it. Again, I don't really have a problem with the game, but the point is valid.
Not to mention how trusting a lot of people are when it comes to pretty much any media presenting slightly twisted information. I could see a lot of dopes walking away from a game like this having an overall positive view of Stalin because they don't know any better.
But hell, if it's Russians making the game, I figure they know what they're doing.
