And neither of our RL problems have anything to do with this. I have perspective. I'm discussing Star Wars in a Star Wars thread with other people who are talking about Star Wars. If I were in Times Square with a sandwich board yelling at the top of my lungs, then I think we'd have a perspective issue. So again, I ask - why is stating a strong opinion at relevant intervals considered ranting and freaking out? I've used bolded type all of one in 4 (5?) pages. And you're missing the larger issue here - the discussion is about more than Star Wars, it's about stories, when to stop, the movie industry, etc.

You guys are confusing the vehemence of my objections over a few very specific things with a blanket Bah Humbug of the entire thing, which isn't fair. Follow my posts - as new information has come in, I have been increasingly hopeful, but my misgivings haven't changed. I'm amazed, given the way things like this typically turn out, that more people aren't rolling their eyes. You can't on one hand bemoan the lack of original material coming out of Hollywood, then stand and applaud when they resurrect a 40 year dead story.
Point taken. I did (and still do) think that some of your earlier points were delivered as a fanboy rant (see the bit henke quoted for an example), but it's not fair to you to read every statement since through that lens. It's too easy online and in the absence of other markers (tone, facial expression, immediate feedback) to let a couple of posts determine, in the eyes of others, what your opinions are and how sane or not they are.
You may find this heresy of the worst kind, but if Abrams & Co deliver sequels that are as entertaining as his
Star Trek, I'm absolutely fine with that. If they're better, great. If they're worse, well, I haven't got much invested in this. I like
Star Wars, but already
Return of the Jedi had bits in there that made it easy to say, "It's just films, dude." Doesn't make Darth Vader, Obi Wan Kenobi, lightsabers, X-Wings and TIE Fighters any less iconic.
PigLick on 13/3/2013 at 14:51
so is the discussion about Star wars, or is it about more than Star wars cos you said its both?
the thread title gave you carte blanche to wail about all that is wrong with modern, well im not sure modern something...
just ease off the throttle and take a chill pill, as Stitch pretty much said.
fett on 13/3/2013 at 15:00
Oh my god, dude. Why don't we go back to the first post and sticky instructions for exactly what should and should not be discussed in the post, just so everyone knows the rules? You're not that pedantic and you know what I mean. How am I blasting modern anything? I've said over and over that I enjoy all kinds of of new stuff, even new SW stuff. Quit making out like I'm Comic Book Guy or something.
PigLick on 13/3/2013 at 15:05
yeh you know, you're probly right I'm gonna stop now, lets just agree to disagree or somesuch. Comic shop guy you aint.
Stitch on 13/3/2013 at 16:37
Fett--when everybody in this thread seems to think that you've flown the coop and need to ease off on the throttle, maybe the problem isn't everybody else in this thread? It's never too late to step back from the brink.
Anyway, my one last comment in an attempt to re-engage you with the reality that surrounds everyone else is this:
Nobody in their right mind actually thinks a 61 year-old Mark Hamill is going to be placed front and center of the most anticipated new cinematic trilogy of the next few years. You're fixed on this as an incredibly bad idea, and I guarantee you everyone involved would agree.

I don't entirely get why fett is taking this so heavily, but even less I understand why people get so worked up over fett getting so worked up.

Who is getting worked up? I'm just baffled and frustrated by his posts in these threads, especially as I'd like to have a place to actually discuss the prospect of new Star Wars films.

Crazy times, the guy named FETT is getting emotional about the new Star Wars movies. Truly and utterly baffling!
(I kid I kid, but c'mon, let the brother vent and just accept it)

I love you guys (and girl). Really. Let's carry on.
