Actually I have cinema pass so I just watch almost anything anyway. If the first of the new trilogy is awful then no I won't waste my time seeing the others.

I've got friends who would watch a film of george lucas taking a hard dump onto C3P0's chest and call it a triumph of sci-fi movie making.
Time for new friends?

I'm up for a good popcorn movie any day. Star Wars is tough because it's so iconic and such an integral part of so many childhoods'. That being the case, it's hard to think of SW as a simple popcorn movie - despite the fact that that was its original intention. As cliche and childish and nerdy as it sounds, SW is Serious Business for a lot of people. I'll fork out the $10 and try to enjoy it on the popcorn level (like I did with Ep 1-3) but I will be left dissatisfied with all but the popcorn and heartily disgusted with myself.

I used to feel the very same way about the Alien franchise.
Now I can barely muster up the enthusiasm for Colonial Marines.

I'm still surprised that there are people having trouble not giving a shit about Star Wars. Until such time as there is a Criterion Edition remastering of the Original Trilogy I'm done giving money to this franchise (unless reviews for Episode VII are mindblowingly positive, which I doubt they will be).

Yeah, after Vasquez, Hicks and Hudson were killed off I pretty much lost interest too.
I'm still in mourning.

Looks like they're also talking spinoffs in the form of a Han Solo origin story and some type of Boba Fett centric film:

I'd welcome an attempt at the former, there's a cool story there that's never been seen, and casting a new actor would be OK as Han would likely been in his teens or twenties. It would be similar to the recent recasting of Bilbo.

Its not even that for me. I'm just bored of Aliens and Predators and Jedis and Sith.
I never watched Enterprise because the bits I did see were dull so I didn't get the same sort of Star Trek burnout and I'm looking forward to this new film.
But the Alien/Predator/Starwars franchises have produced so much derivative crap now that I'm just bored to death of them. There is nothing interesting in them at all, anymore. All the stories that can be told within those universes have been done and everything else will just be a rehash. Colonial Marines is a rehash, the new SW films will be rehashes. Dull dull dull.
Even the Superman reboot is more exciting.
