Indeed. I just finished the game for the first time. A pretty decent RPG to say the least.
The combat mechanics allows for fine strategy, though companions tend to do stupid things, especially the droids. I mean, if you've got a flamethrower, why don't you use it? Also most combat skills(power blast, flurry, and the like) are pretty useless, unless you want to rape your defense rating.
The Force powers are interesting, very useful in the endgame, but only when you get them on their highest level. I played light side, so I've only seen dark side powers being thrown at me, so I don't really know about them.
The weapons and armors are nice, and are quite numerous, but the really interesting ones are the 'uniques', which cost a fortune, but are very worth it. The 'upgrading' concept is new to me, which is a nice novelty, though the upgrades are most often only minor. Some of the lightsaber crystals are useless though, even with the special color crystals.
The story is nice, with a few twists, but nothing like "OMGOMG, IT'S THE FUCKING REVELATIONS". The dialogue is nice, though the hero is mute, which makes me juggle between two thoughts: 1)If he doesn't speak, how do they understand him? and 2)I've already read the line I chose, do I want to hear it at all? One con : the 'alien' speeches; OMG WHY? If you're going to make alien languages, at least don't make just one line and repeat it over again for each line. Most obvious : the Sasha brat that stowaways on the Ebon Hawk; the written speech and the spoken doesn't match, plus the voice is cringe-inducing.
The quests look varied, even if it involves most of the time the slaying of everything. The character-specific quest are there only as distractions, you don't get anything from it; usually it unlocks powers in the character, but this time, it's just a nice friendly chit-chat. This excludes HK-47, which does improve him quite a bit, and he is oh-so-funny, meatbag...
The endgame is annoying, with the infinite spawning enemies, and the 'pre' boss is just so ghey it's not funny anymore, and Darth Malak himself is a target practice for Force Wave.
Well I think it sums it up, it was pretty good entertainment for 25 hours (well, probably more like 40 if you count the reloads) of play time. I'll probably replay it at some point in the future, possibly prior to playing KOTOR 2.
Oh, and don't complain about it being an old game already, I hesitate between playing Morrowind or Outcast (the not-star wars Outcast...) next.
If you complain, I'll have you. Just ask tungsten. :ebil:

Outcast.

Yeah.
Have ya played Jade Empire btw? It's exactly like KoToR(same engine, same developer and all) except it's set in ancient fantasy China and better in every way. Especially the combat.
I'm about 2/3's through it on my X-Box.
Apparently there's a PC version on the way, (

wrt to Outcast:
(
http://www.openoutcast.de/index.php) (they remake using crystal space engine)
and
(
http://and.intercon.ru/index.php) (has OUTCAST LIVES FOREVER, a map viewer that reads the old voxel maps with loads of new features like HDR, soft shadows and stuff)
KOTOR was pretty good, certainly had me diverted from the PC to the XBox for a while. My XBox now sits rather dustily under the TV, sadly.

I finished it recently and it was alright. Force powers are the best part of the whole RPG system IMHO, very fun to use, especially with 3 jedis, each on specializing in different things.
You said you didn't play dark. Well, I found that it really doesn't matter, the storyline pretty much works the same way and people react the same. Disappointing...
Also, about alien voices - I completly agree! Kotor wins the "most retarded game feature ever" award for that...
By the end, I was really tired of the same "go to planet, talk to every person there, get what you are looking for, rinse and repeat" routine :eww:
Now I hear KOTOR2 is MUCH better than 1, with more interesting player and character involvemnent, darker atmosphere and light/dark side meaning something... I will find out soon.

The annoying thing about KOTOR2 is that it e

KOTOR was too linear for my tastes(yes even with the 5 planets) and was too similar to other Bioware RPGs. It really had nothing new that I hadn't seen in previous games, and that is bad for an 'RPG of the Year'. You could call it the Starcraft of RPGs, or not.. but the premise was well selected and the game mechanics even more so and it brought a boat load of cash to Bioware, nothing wrong.

I though KOTOR 1 and 2 were great games, they had me playing on my XBOX instead of my PC for hours!

I haven't seen Jade Empire yet, I'll look for it someday.
