Now I hear KOTOR2 is MUCH better than 1, with more interesting player and character involvemnent, darker atmosphere and light/dark side meaning something... I will find out soon.
As far as I'm concerned, KOTOR1 is more simplistic in terms of its plotting and characterisation. Good is good, evil is evil, and there's no ambiguity. However, it's executed extremely well and a highly enjoyable RPG.
KOTOR2 is the more ambitious and ambiguous of the two. Your actions are no longer just good or just evil; you're made to re-evaluate these actions as well as your motivation for doing them. The game's plot and characters are deeper, more complex. However, due to various reasons the execution is far weaker than that of its predecessor, especially in the endgame.
There's a restoration project ((
http://www.team-gizka.org/) here) that might remedy many if not most of these problems.

(

I wish someone would make a patch that increased the game's resolution. You can see a higher resolution used in the 'bloopers' videos, so it is possible (if not easily doable without being the developer).

Could someone post screenshots of that OUTCAST LIVES FOREVER thing?

Hrm. Easier said than done; PrintScreen doesn't leave a usable clipboard entry and Fraps crashes it. It looks very close to the original though, except at a high resolution and with vectors; you can even gain control of a number of characters [from Cutter, a spider, to the 'rex] and walk them around the terrain.
The oddities are rainbow coloured building edges and lack of treetops.

Sounds seriously trippy! :)

outcast is a better game than morrowind imo. Morrowind was just... stale and dead in my opinion. Dunno why.
Outcast is more of an action adventure game too so its kinda hard to compare the two.
KOTOR was a great game, but I just couldn't get myself to beat it a second time as sith. I guess I just can't play as an evil person very well...

I think that the two games just have very different emphases. They both have their strengths and their weaknesses, and perhaps they appeal to different people.

Same here. I can't even be horrible and evil in turn-based games such as Alpha Centauri.

I think it was PC Gamer (UK) that said when reviewing KOTOR II that KOTOR I was the better game while KOTOR II was the better role playing game. For me thats a pretty fair assessment.
I usually play as a goody too shoes in games, so when I re-played KOTOR I steeled myself to play as a dark side character - I ended up finding it strangely cathartic!

Have ya played Jade Empire btw? It's exactly like KoToR(same engine, same developer and all) except it's set in ancient fantasy China and better in every way. Especially the combat.
Bull poopies. I really have to disagree with you. The game's tiny scope, (comparatively) shallow characters, and the fact that the last few hours of the game are just so obviously rushed made Jade Empire a very sour experience for me.
Oh, and the combat was a mess, too, with AI that was way too easy to exploit (I only got hit twice in game's final two battles), and almost no effort was made to balance the different styles.

HAAHAA. Today I got my hands on a copy of Beyond Good & Evil. So many games to play, not enough hours in a day....
