Yeah, it's pretty disgusting, though I've never played Starcraft over a LAN as such.
Sure, you can play it in LAN mode via Hamachi, and it's the only way to play multiplayer online with a pirated copy, but seriously, Hamachi can't cope.
SC1 usually starts to lag horribly if you try to play over Hamachi with more than 2-3 players, while it will run perfectly smoothly on battle.net. Plus you'd be limited to a fairly small player base with which to play against - far from the automatic game allocation that battle.net offers (at least judging by WC3's version of battle.net, as opposed to SC's which was hardly easy).
Sounds like another case of a company stupidly shooting themselves in the foot to combat piracy, while only hurting themselves in the process.

wait, they broke up the full game into parts, that they will release in succession ? Did I get that right ?

Yep, one campaign per game.

Right, but unlike the first SC where there are ~10 missions per campaign, this time there will be ~30. So you're getting the equivalent of a full game each time.

Yeah exactly and they're a bit more complexly scripted (decide which way your tech tree goes) and story bits in between each mission. I'm not sure why people complain about this.

Not exactly, you're just getting about as many missions. It's like taking all other classes than the Paladin out of D2 but making it 5 times as long to compensate. Roughly the same playtime, but only part of the full experience. Blizzard know that most people interested in SC2's singleplayer would like to experience all races, they're counting on it.
While we're at it, I think I recall that the multiplayer component is supposed to have all three races available regardless of campaign, right?

ok, that sounds better. I thought of half game, half units

Yes, all three races will be available for multiplayer (and custom game maps) from the beginning. Each "chapter" will only be including one single-player campaign, but all the races will be included.
I'm sure we can expect to see a few new units for each race in chapters 2 and 3, though.

Yeah, it makes sense that they'd add little somethings to the previous races with each installment.

Back to the LAN issue - now, I've never played SC over a LAN, or even been to a LAN party of any kind, and I'm sure I'll get some nerd rage here, but in this day and age, is this really that big of a deal? I know the hardcore geeks are screaming, but how many people still play multiplayer games this way? I'm sure that Blizzard is looking at their multiple millions of WoW subscribers each month (each with an internet connection), and saying, why bother?
